What Is Pitting?

As a person new to buying (and vigorusly Cleaning) Vintage DE Razors, I Was Wondering what pitting looks like.
could someone show a picture of that? And Are there any ways to remove or polish that?

Think of metal that has been "attacked" over the years thus leaving micro "pits" or "dots" of holes within the metal. Running a finger over ghe head of the razor for example on say a flea market find, the head will almost have the feel of fine grit sandpaper.

One of the reasons I don't like buying razors whose blades have been buffed is that buffing can hide pitting rust in pictures. Fortunately, though, even though buffed, the pits from pitting rust can often still be seen when examined by eye. Unfortunately, these pits in buffed blades aren't usually visible in pictures.

I'll see if I can take a good enough picture with my iPhone...

I have a rhodium re-plated fat-handle Tech that was not perfectly smooth before re-plating. You can see a few little depressions, or pits, here and there where the underlying brass suffered from some corrosion. I imagine those pits could have been filled before re-plating if a person wanted a really smooth appearance. (I would have liked that, but it is not a deal-killer.)

If you are looking at a pretty dirty and corroded razor, you might not notice the pits. However, they sure stand out when you are looking at a freshly re-plated surface.
