What is going on with my neck?

2 weeks ago I got two large ingrown bumps on my neck. I attributed it to a quick shave with a quattro (I always use a Fusion) and some poor lathering with Proraso as I was in a rush. After about 10 days they went away for the most part. These bumps are right where my dress shirt collar is.

However some time last week I got another ingrown and a large bump and still have it. I was using the Fusion as usual and the Proraso soap for this time. Common denominator = Proraso.

I used to always get these ingrowns on my neck prior to starting to use a brush and a good soap/cream and for the last year I have been problem free with a variety of soaps and creams (Omega, KMF, C&E, Body Shop). I really do believe it is the Proraso soap causing this for me. I feel as though I have a hell of a time getting a decent lather in the soap bowl ....I literally have to swirl and beat away at it for about 2 minutes for something passable.

Could it be the soap causing my issues. Yes I know I should switch to a DE but as I stated, since going away from the canned goo I have not had problems til now.

Since Omega = Proraso (unless you had the old lanolin version of Omega), it's not likely that Proraso is the problem. I haven't made lather in a bowl in years so no advice there. You could always try face lathering.

If you are getting bumps right at the collar line, try talc. I use Clubman talc and I can wear a tie all day w/o irritation.

I feel your pain - gave myself some nightmare burn on the tie-line a while back after a rushed morning shave with a cheapo plastic monster (I have since seen the light) followed by a long, hot day in a suit and tie.

On the Proraso front, I've used the softer [post=23659]Proraso Shaving Soap[/post] and I found it to lather easily, but my skin felt 'tight' afterwards, even after slathering a balm all over it.

I also saw another post on [post=1851075]Proraso Lip[/post] so it maybe Proraso may not agree with everones skin.

If you can get the lather up on your soap, maybe just some extra attention on the post-shave (maybe get some witchhazel or some other range of balms?) may help?

Yes I am aware Omega=Proraso. The difference is Omega was in cream form whereas I have the Proraso soap. I think I've realized that I'm a terrible soap latherer...lol. Much prefer the creams to lather with.

I'm just wondering why they appear right on my collar line?

I've found the soap lathers better if I overdo the load. Or it seems like I overdo it. When you load the brush load for a good 30-45 seconds, that should help.

I think it may just be the fabric on the skin - chaffing, or overheating, or holding sweat near the skin - that increases the irritation? :001_unsur

I only get a rash if I wear a tight collar & tie shortly after a rushed shave (hence my interest in the talc). I didn't get the issue when I made the same rushed-shave mistake but had an open collar.

I'm willing to bet that you're not getting as good a lather with the soap as you were getting with the cream.

In terms of the collar-line, I occasionally get the same thing, but never thought about the reasons. Grumpy Old Git's explanation sounds as good as any other.
