What is a soap with good moisturizing and skin conditioning properties?

Hi guys. I need your advice over here. I'm looking for a soap(s) which are moisturizing and good on your skin. I've tried DRH Lavender, and it tends to leave my skin a bit dry during and after the shave. I'm able to combat the dryness by using Proraso pre-shave cream, but I'm wondering if there's any soap that's good enough on its own. Even with the pre-shave and with the same line of Proraso soap, I tend to get my skin dry. The body shop maca root cream sometimes dries my skin out as well. Any suggestions?

I use Mystic Water and Mike's and both are excellent in this regard. If I have enough lather left at the end of the shave I will smear it on my face and find it helps to moisturize my face. In fact, as a bit of a test, this past winter (both very cold and very dry here in Western Alaska) I used no aftershave or balm as a worst case test. After working outside at the end of the day, my face remained soft and unirritated. Recomed both highly.

Agree with Mike's being very comfortable and moisturizing. I haven't tried that many soaps and creams (Proraso, VDH Luxury, TOBS), but Mike's is definitely the most moisturizing of the ones I have used.

I never feel a need for an AS balm or face moisturizer after shaving with Mike's.

Harris should not be very drying as long as you use enough water, and rinse thoroughly after the shave.

But all the suggestions so far are fine soaps, and I will add the Wilkinson-Sword stick (not bowl) and the LEA stick. Like MWF, those include lanolin. You might also look into Institut Karité and Provence Sante, which have shea butter.

I expect that you'll get a wide variety of answers, as there are so many excellent soaps and every shaver has his favorites. That comment aside, +1 on Mike's, which I think is as good as it gets for moistness and skin care, with the addition that it's comparatively cheap.

Institut of Karite is a great shaving soap with 25% shea butter, RR King Louie or RR 888 both have lanolin and shea butter. I also like Barrister and Mann as they have great moisturizing ingredients in all their shave soaps.

Lots of great suggestions. My list would be Strop Shoppe special edition, Mike's, Mystic Water, Mitchell's Wool Fat judged on moisturizing alone.

I just posted this in another thread about Mitchell's Woolfat (MWF)...

The non-greasy and very supple post shave feel. This is one of the most unique factors about MWF. Other soaps moisturise etc but no other soap makes the skin feel as supple as MWF.
