What's new

What have you done to me?

I made it for roughly forty years, through various types of wetshaving. Cartridges, DE, straight (shavette), disposable, canned goo, various brushes and soaps and very happily WITHOUT ANY AS.

About the same time I joined this board, I was in a pharmacy with one of my adult daughters, she is the foo-foo princess of the bunch. I had her sniff a bottle of Old Spice original AS. She liked it. I bought it. Please keep in mind this was about a month ago. I am now hooked on AS (as well as all other things wetshaving, but that is another story).

Since then, I've managed to pick up a bottle of Clubman original, Tabac balm, Witch Hazel, Old Spice Pure Sport, SWMBO got me a bottle of Booster Polar Ice earlier this week. I've also started using the Joop balm SWMBO bought me a few years ago.

Today I was walking through a pharmacy I normally do not go to and decided to check out the shaving isle. Okay, I was actually only there to check out the shaving isle. Nothing caught my eye at first. Then I saw it. A single, lonely, GLASS bottle of Aqua Velva. Everything else was in plastic. I've never used it. I've never smelt it. It was in one of the rapidly vanishing glass bottles, only $3.50 and I HAD TO HAVE IT!

What have you done to me...

I'm hooked.

...and loving it!

Aqua Velva is an American classic. I have a glass bottle of the Ice Blue as well, and I intend to refill it from future plastic bottles.

I too was in a similar situation. I decided to pick up a bottle of Aqua Velva because of the praise it sometimes gets around here. I have only used it once so far and the truth is I don't know if I can get passed the scent. Ill give it another try but its not looking optimistic.

hmmm... wait till you run into some of the REAL (Shulton) Old Spice.

oh, man. You don't know what you're in for.... The vintage stuff (not only OS) will just make you crazy!

Welcome to the Fun!

Just wait until you discover the great euro products. Speick, the Pitralons, and Alt Innsbruck are some of my all time favorites.

No Musgo splash yet? You're behind the 8 ball man.

Whats that? Want citrus? Lavender? You have not tried the grail splashes yet - Aqua di Parma and Santa Maria Novella.

I'm hoping for Vintage OS Lime some day :w00t:

The only thing saving me is local availability. I'm not a huge fan of shopping online (first couple experiences were bad), but I am a huge impulse buyer. If I see it and I want it, It's mine.

Well, now I have both the Blue and the Green (sport) Aqua Velva, both purchased because of this forum and the fact that they were in glass bottles. I have also now ordered Indian Shulton Old Spice AS (Original and Lime).

So far, I've managed to restrain myself from the Import only types (as in the link Luc posted :thumbup1: ), so far...

Luckily this is the only obsession/hobby I that is actually VERY easy on the wallet, compared to other interests, in no particular order, Scotch, Fountain Pens, Jeep 4X4, Guns, Wet Shaving. Also used to collect coins etc.

I'm hooked but I'm happy!

You need some Brut next :001_smile

Now that they have new scents like 'Ocean', 'Alaska', 'Passion', 'Musk' and one or two others, you can collect the whole set.

That's my intention, anyway!

Have not seen anything beyond the standard Brut here in Canada so far but will be watching. :001_smile

If you ever want to get some Japanese AS, I strongly recommend MG5 and Bravas. They both have a very soapy scent/barbershop-ish and great performers!

Mandom is more mandarines scent-wise, not everyone likes it but performs great.

The best one with menthol, I have to say Vintage! That stuff is nice.

The only one that I would say, stay away, Lordos, unless you like powdery scents.

How is the Shulton OS different from the current ones?

The current stock is what Proctor and Gamble cooked up. When they bought it from Shulton they re-formulated it. OS Old Spice by Shulton (Shulton will be on the bottle/box) differs in scent from current production Old Spice. If I can find the thread, I'll post it but apparently the Shulton forumla of Old Spice is still being produced in India today.

I found a great thread containing links to other Shulton vs P&G Old Spice threads HERE.

You should consider paying a visit with your wallet to Poulin located right in your home town

Rasage Poulin - click here

He carries a great range of classic A/S's. Then you can smell them first hand.

He carries the Booster's line which will just blow your mind at this stage of the game. I'm serious. WOW just WOW :w00t: (Polar Ice, Iced Lime, June Clover, Mosswood) :thumbup1:

Definately drop some dosh on Musgo if you enjoy the scent. Top notch for sure.
