What's new

What else am I missing?

If you would have asked me last week, I would have told you that I was 90% set on my products and shaving ritual. The one part of it that seemed the least flexible was the bowl lathering. I read about face lathering, but just couldn't understand the appeal......until I actually tried it.

In my search for my first Simpson, I broke down and tried to face lather (I also head lathered the same day). Fast forward to the end of the story......I am sold. I get a very thin but dense layer of cream where I can not see any skin. My razor glides even more than before and my shaves are better. And for my fellow head shavers, there is nothing like painting that cream on my noggin.....soooo relaxing.

My CH1 is on order so this should only get better once it arrives.

What other surprises lay ahead on this journey?

Not sure whats' ahead in your shaving journey

But when I first decided to get into wet shaving. I wanted to bowl lather. Maybe that was because I like to cook. At first I wasn't getting the density that I was hoping for. But I did get some good slick lather. Then after doing some re-search I found out that I needed to use more product. Went from a large pea size to a large almond. Since then I've been getting much thicker lather that last's for 3+ passes.

I still prefer to bowl lather at the house here. But now I've also found shave sticks to be an enjoyable experience. Like rubbing some Arko on my face and the tips of my brush and watching the lather explode!!

It's strange...I had a very similar experience. I WANTED to bowl lather, but tried face lathering once and have not looked back.

I think face lathering is more convenient and takes less time (even if it is less than a minute or two).

I always felt like I was doing double the work. Bowl lathering then applying the lather to my face. But I stuck with the bowl because "that's what they did back then". well little did I know some guys face lathered!

I gave up the bowl and only use it for cremes, which is rare that I use a creme. I load my brush then straight to the face.

I too started bowl lathering, mainly because that was all I saw in You tube vids.....now I am face lathering most of the time and I think the extra scrubbing and swirling that is done on the face (as opposed to the bottom of a bowl) gives a much better prep, resulting in a better shave. Of course, YMMV.
