What's new

What do you think?

I'm looking for a cheap yet decent straight razor for my husband... but I'm new to this world.
Does anyone have a reveiw for "Kreiger" brand straight razors? I can see that they have beautiful scales, but how do the blades perform? How do they compare to other trusted brands?

*BTW this is Solemns' wife

I have never heard of the Krieger brand. I would stay away from them until positive reviews come out. If your looking for new, Thiers Issard and Dovo are the big dogs. Wacker, Boker, and Revisor have opened up shop again and are producing some good razors if initial reports are indicative of overall quality.

Other than that, vintage razors are much better than any of the new stuff.

Kriegar razors are junk. Don't waste your time and money. I purchased one years ago and it was terrible.

What's your price range? That will help us better direct you.

You can find a nice selection with varying price range HERE (<--click). Browse around, any 5/8 or 6/8 you find there will make Solemn very happy. Those there have been restored by one of the best in the business.

EDIT: Looking at the price range of some of those Kreigers though, you may want to reconsider the expenditure. Keep in mind that even though the initial cost may look high, even for a $60 - $70 range, properly looked after a straight razor will last several lifetimes.

I suggest getting a wapienica. They are inexpensive, but most straight razor aficionados would still have a soft spot in their hearts for a "wapi", especially if given as a gift. There are still unused ones available (called new old sale NOS). This guy used to sell them.

You may want to check him out, if he does not have them, he probably knows where to get them. Good luck!

You're going to make TstebinsB (2 posts above yours) cry. Look at his sig, and he closer to the OP for shipping.

But I agree, a wapi is a good choice too.
