What do you think gives the absolute closest shave?

I think I have a problem B&B, BBS is nice but I often want to get even closer and cut the hairs from under the skin. So then what do you think gives the closest possible shave? I believe a lot of skin stretching is in order to achieve this, from my personal experience the absolute closest shave I've ever gotten was with a Hydro 5 that I bore down really hard with. I shaved the other side of my face with a feather and a DE which gave me BBS as well, but the other side was clearly shaven closer as the "gray sheen" was visibly less present for the rest of the day and the next.

I had my most successful shave this morning using a Slim with an English Wilkinson blade and P160. Not quite BBS, but very smooth and not a sign of irritation. I switched over from a Fusion not too long ago and while my shaves aren't as consistent now my face feels much smoother and the shave seems to last longer if that makes sense.

Fire.

I've seen Turkish barbers use it. Good luck to you if you do that, though.

YIKES!

Look up blade buffing on youtube. It works wonders for problem areas. I have a couple problem areas I even blade buff ATG.

My closest 2 shaves: 2nd place: Gillette SS blue tip, Personna blue meds, Bigelow cream. 1st place: Gillette SS red tip, Feather blade, Bigelow cream.

Are you nuts? You cannot cut hairs below the skin without cutting the skin.

If you want a closer shave, then you aren't getting BBS, right? I think straights, DE's and carts all provide the same closeness. The difference lies in your technique and angle of attack.

While a straight will give probably the closest shaves, the R41 runs a very close second. Of course good technique and a very light touch are necessary in both.

I believe it's possible, with skin stretching and cartridge blades. When the first couple of blades make contact with hair they pull the hair up a slight bit, while the rest cut it down (afterwards the hair retracts back). For me, it would explain why both sides of my face were BBS, but the side I shaved with the Hydro 5 had less of a "grey sheen" because the hairs were under the skin.

Here's an article suggesting that hairs are first pulled up and then cut with a multiblade.

Thats how you get ingrown hairs

For me...My Parker SR1 shavette...! ( It's shave close enough for me !)

Compared to my Weishi DE....

This is a newbie answer here.....:straight:

I recently bought a Panasonic electric to take on trips. Since it's a wet/dry shaver, I decided to try it with a good lather. The results were incredibly close, safe, and non-irritating. A very different experience than using a blade, but still enjoyable, faster, and very quick and efficient in problem spots. I'm used to a BBS with blades, but this is even closer, since electrics are at their best ATG. I was certainly surprised by this.
