What's new

What do you do while smoking a cigar?

Because I have to take mine out on the front porch, I'm looking forward to cooler weather arriving. My wicker chair isn't very comfortable (and it's more of a raised sidewalk with a banister, so it's too narrow for a rocker) but I enjoiy my time out there. Sometimes I'll just sit there with a cup of coffee and watch the birds feeding, and other times I'll take a book or magazine out with me. With football season now just a few days away, I'm thinking about relocating to the garage. I don't have a tv out there yet, but I've been considering it for some time.

I just wondered how everyone else enjoyed their cigar. Do you use that time to unwind, focus on your smoke and try to forget everything else? Or do you share that time with another hobby/passion? And where do you smoke?

*As a side note, I was watching an episode of Man Caves on DIY a few months ago where they turned a spare detached room/building/garage into a cigar room. It was amazing. If I didn't live in the middle of a hill and had the room to build, I'd increase my smoking just to justify creating something like that. Man, that thing was sweet...

I usually smoke to relax and reflect. Most of the time I'll take a walk, or just sit out on the porch or patio, kicked back with some friends.

I am usually in a cigar bar with a few good friends, none of whom smoke cigars in their homes or apartments. If I am home and just want to enjoy one, as yesterday, I grab the book I am reading and sit outside in the park with a bottle of water or tea.

It's definitely a social activity for me - so if someone is available I'll invite them for a cigar, too.

But when I'm alone and the urge strikes I've been known to watch a baseball or football game while enjoying a cigar.

Or I log into a cigar forum I frequent and hit up its chatroom on my laptop. There's usually at least a few people around to chat with who are also enjoying a smoke. There even used to be a standing virtual herf each week, although I don't know if those are still going on or not.

talk with friends who are smoking with me, read a book, surf the net, watch nature. Any of that. Sometimes I'll even do a review of the cigar I'm smoking.

I also must go outside or more commonly smoke while I am work. On the railroad we spend a considerable amount of time in a hotel, mine happens to be in Covington, KY. Being in Kentucky tobacco is a little cheaper than in Indiana and so I go to my favorite shop look for an interesting stick and usualy walk about or sit on a bench and watch people come and go as well as watch water traffic on the Ohio River.

Sit back on the porch and think about nothing except the cigar. The only other time I ever smoke one is when I'm on a long drive- it helps me enjoy the trip.

I like to sit outside and enjoy a cigar with a cup of coffee.

The cigar should be around the 6x60 size. That about a hour smoke.

The coffee would be Starbucks Clover press coffee.
By the way, Starbucks has a seasonal coffee known as "Aged Sumatra" which goes great with a cigar.

Just relaxing with a cigar and coffee is good for the mind, body and soul.

I don't smoke cigars much any more, but smoke a pipe every now and then. If I'm alone, I go for a walk. If I'm with friends, we'll just sit around and shoot the breeze...

Since I have to take it outside, I'll sometimes take a glass of rum or mix up a gin-and-something out with me and sip it while sitting on the back step.

Living in the city there isn't much to look at, though.

And this is the difference between northerly and southerly climes - I'm dreading the arrival of cooler weather, as it means an end to porches and patios.

As for what I do, I usually go for a walk, or occasionally read a book with a glass of armagnac.

Thanks for reminding me -- I have that Opus X sitting in my humidor waiting for me! I'll likely enjoy it on the back porch some evening when it's a bit cooler.

i like to smoke solo, i'll sit in the park and people watch, text, and make quick phone calls.

it is one of the most relaxing things in the world.

Generally I smoke my cigar on a bench in Harvard Square, Cambridge.

It great watching folks running around like chickens with their heads cut-off while I'm relaxing with my cigar and coffee.

Plus I love when I get dirty looks from the PC types.

I enjoy a good glass of Scotch or Whiskey, Kick back out on the deck, and enjoy a conversation with a buddy of mine who like to smoke good cigars and drink good whisky.

It usually turns into the scene from Crimson Tide, Where Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington are on the conning tower, savoring the sunset, and Cigars, just before they go below.

Then we take the Ribeyes off the grill and enjoy a great steak and BS the rest of the evening away
