What's new

What do you do days you don't shave?

Do you use after shave on your off-days? Do you use a daily moisturizer instead? What do you use, especially in the dry winter months?

I give my face a good thorough wash, trim any stray hairs on my goatee with a scissors and apply some moisturizer, followed by a cologne. Sometimes, if my skin is irritated, I'll use an aftershave balm.

I use an exfoliating face scrub in the shower, cold water rinse after the shower, slap on some witch hazel and then finish off with some form of moisturiser.... Then I spend the rest of the day thinking about shaving the next day. Pretty bad that I've only been at this for two months and its already got in my head.

Any moisturizing brands you like in particular? Are there some known good ones?

I use Simple (UK brand) during winter and may step it up to using inbetween shaves as well. When I use my after shave balm I feel plenty moisturized and it smells good to boot. Tempting to just use my expensive balm just for the smell!

I've used a few including QV (my old faithful), Nivea, Body Shop, Aveeno and Trilogy (an organic brand from Australia that my significant other got me on to). Of these the Trilogy has kicked a lot of goals. When my skin has been really dry and sore following a bad learner's shave, I've comboed my Nivea ASB with a Trilogy moisturiser and its really calmed everything down and left my skin feeling good a few hours later. In my view there's nothing wrong with using your after shave balm on off days either but I don't find them heavy enough to handle really cold, dry weather.

I never take a day off of shaving.

If I did the wife would be on my like flies on.... well you know.... to grow my beard back.

Any sign of a whisker and she asks. "You going to grow your bear back yet?"

Can't shave everyday or my face would be hamburger. Luckily I work in a place where competence is valued over appearance. I also have some eczema so I use Curel moisturizer or Nivea sensitive skin ASB. Wish my facial hair grew fast enough for daily shaving.

When I used the leccy razor, I would always have at least one day off a week, usually Saturday. Shaving was a pain in the a.... er, face. Since I have rediscovered wet shaving, I enjoy the ritual, the "me time", and I rarely miss a day.

Days I don't shave? I have no experience with this to date, but when the time comes I suppose I'll have to kill a few zombies during my search for shelter from the nuclear fallout.

Honestly, I try to see how long I can go without shaving before anyone notices at work. But I suppose, I could shave everyday. Although there would be much hair, it never hurts to refine your technique and tactics.
