BACK TO A JORIS SHAVE

Three Days Whiskers

PRE-SHAVE:

- Hot Shower

- Proraso Crema Pre Barba Rinfrescante (I)

SOAP: MRed Le Père Lucien, le savon du barbier (F) -

Good mentholated soap which turned into a magnificent lather.

BOWL: Saponificio Varesino Shaving Grail (I)

BRUSH: Rasorock Plissoft Beehive Butterscotch, 63×28 mm (CND)

SR: Plisson 1808 Joris OC, laque retro et finition Palladium (F) -

With an italian head made by Fatip in Premana with Palladium finishes in France, also present in the lacquered handle, this razor's always a pleasure to look at.
Once the blade's loaded one always should check for any misalignment, for the clamping can be treacherous, because there's a gap between posts and holes. They don't fit tight enough. So I failed on first attempt and succeeded on the second one.
The handle lenght and balance gives some extra agressiveness to this SR.

BLADE: Rapira Platinum Lux (RUS) -

It started rough and ended rough. First I thought it was behaving like that because it was brand new and some blades have this hesitancy while performing the first strokes. But then it persisted. I made the three passes and the result was medium. Then I went for some touch-ups and I nicked my self twice on neck while going XTG.
At least I didn't get any irritation.
7/10 is the end result.
The blade was thrown into the trash bin. It's the second bad blade from a package of 100.

To crown this episode, when I laid down my Joris over the sink I made a false move and it fell on the floor. No teeth damaged, but one of the pins of the top cap ended broken.
By examining the base of the post I came to identify two types of metal: a core, thin in diameter and a relatively thick coating. I got aware of the fragility of the core. I can have it being fixed, weld it for sure, but this leaves me with some doubts about the overall quality of such a top cap.

POST-SHAVE:

- The Barber Professional Allume di Rocca Stick (I) - mild to medium feedback over the first couple of minutes.

- La Toja After-Shave Balm (SP)

- Scent: 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser (GER)

THE SHAVE

1st Pass: WTG.

2nd Pass: XTG from East to West on face. ATG on neck.

3rd Pass: ATG on face and neck, except on mustache chin areas where I went XTG from West to East.

Some touch-ups XTG from right to left on neck and some J Hooks.

A bright Saturday morning. Sticking with the idea of new/vintage and other/straight (or straight/other) for alternating weekends. This one's turn again.

Edwin Jagger 3ONE6 + Astra SP
Zenith 506 olivewood handle black horse brush
Mitchell's Wool Fat
Marks & Spencer "Woodspice" (Amber) aftershave

Last turn (number 8) with the reference Astra (first thing I put in a new razor). Those Feathers that came in the box are grinning at me for next time.

All good reliable stuff. Tallow MWF, as is the spare one in the cupboard, so it'll be a while before I try the newer formulation. Lathered nicely and the smells are a good match.

If anything, it's too reliable. I'll give it a "9" and reserve top marks for the ones that surprise me.

Spectacular shave! Three passes to BBS or DFS+++. The Blade is still performing and will be on 19 tomorrow.

Had way too much lather after the Omega was done with the soap, but it was slick and smooth just as I like it.

Joseph Allen & Sons Non XXL
Omega Pro Boar 🐗
PAA Atomic Age Honeysuckle Bay Rum
PAA Pineapple Bay Rum

I think my first shave with this razor wasn’t good because I did not have a fully set bevel. This was addressed with a King 1K/6K, and Dan’s Soft and Hard Arks, and finished on Dan’s Translucent.

To test the edge I did one WTG/XTG pass, one ATG pass and one water only ATG pass.

The razor shaves much better now, great results with no irritation.

Feeling Sweet & Spicy? Well, the Atomic Age Honeysuckle and Pineapple Bay Rum is your Huckleberry.

My Omega Pro Boar 🐗 whipped up an awesome face lather.

I confidently addressed a razor that didn’t meet my expectations, did a water only pass to finish, and loved the soap/Aftershave combo, all while keeping the Berry Juice inside. I’m going to give this one a 10!

Starting the weekend off with a different razor and blade combo: my Feather AS-D2 razor paired with a Feather blade. For me, this combo works great. It always gives me a close, BBS shave with no irritation. The B&B Essential Boar loaded the MdC soap easily. This is the 118th shave with MdC. A perfect shave. Have a great day.

2 passes , a very smooth one today, I think feather 3rd through 5th use is my sweet spot , and now that i generally only do 2 passes per shave, I think I can take a feather to about 8 shaves
Zero irritation, very minuscule red dot on neckline which vanished quickly
Also a fan of Arko green cream, one of the best bang for buck creams in my book

ps was my regular
Alum, rinsed off
Witch Hazel
Nivea sensitive Balm
Denim Azure AS Splash

a really solid 9/10 shave

Happy shaves everyone and have a good weekend
