Friday morning shave

I had an experimental setup today as I mixed a shaving cream (Balea Men Rasiercreme Sensitive) with Martin de Candre Agrumes shaving soap. It created a lot of lather with the SOC boar but the performance was not as good as with the MdC alone. I won’t repeat this experiment. Some nicks, the razor did not glide as usual. Scores a 7/10.

Razor: Rockwell 6S, WTG/XTG R4, ATG and touch ups R3
Blade: Personna Red (3)
Cream/Soap: Balea Men Sensitive Rasiercreme and Martin de Candre Agrumes
Brush: SOC boar
Preshave: Balea Rasieröl
Aftershave: Osma Alum, Nivea Sensitive Balm, Balea Men Outdoor Protection

Excellent shave!

Brush: Elite Tourmaline Laced Quartz 26mm HMW
Soap: Ethos Colonia
Razor: Haircut & Shave N075
Blade: Bic
Aftershave: Ethos Colonia

Was in a hurry and went with the N075 -- so smooth and easy and I was able to sprint through. Not a nick, irritation, or issue. I guess a 9.9/10 is warranted

First shave with Bali BD176* with Astra SP blade. Rating: 10/10
Palmolive (tube) Shave Cream: Worked well, but felt a little burning after applying it. May try an alternative cream in two days.

*This $12 Bali shaves more comfortably and more efficiently than razors I've bought that cost 15x the price of this DE razor. With sensitive skin and barb-wire-like stubble (two days worth), this razor performed beautifully.

Today's shave

Preshave: Slock’s universal, certified soon to be internationally famous proprietary shaving oil blend.
Razor: Slim adjustable (6) touch up pass set to 7
Blade: GSB
Soap: DR Harris Marlborough shaving cream
Brush: Rocky mountain barber company best badger shave brush.
Balm Stirling unscented balm
Aftershave: saponificio varesino Felce Aromatica sample

Shave rating 9. I guess the touch up pass set at 7 was chasing bbs. I failed to achieve bbs. No irritation to report.

First shave with the Ascension Twist. Also first time I have used a double open comb.

Preshave:
Shower
Washed face with Nivea Men's Moisturizing face wash
Proraso white preshave cream
Shave:
PAA Coconut Bay Soap
Semogue 730 Badger brush
PAA Ascension Twist Select
Personna US Made blue
3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG)
Aftershave:
Cool water rinse
Omega Alum Stick
Seven Minerals Organic Aloe Gel
Nivea Sensitive Skin AS Balm
Splash of PAA Atomic Age AS

Very nice smooth shave. A little tricky under the nose with the teeth going ATG, but not bad. Had a couple of weepers there but they disappeared after a pass with the Alum stick.

9.6/10 DFS! No irritation! All but BBS!
  • The Proraso Blue is Dead! Long Live the Proraso Blue! I emptied a bottle today, but have a replacement, hiding in the background, ready to go
  • D'Oh! I forgot to include the brush in the picture. It's been a while since I took the time to take any pictures, and this is probably my most aesthetic brush. Regardless, I was too lazy to take another group shot, so added a brush-centric shot...
  • A very close and enjoyable shave
  • Several minor nicks on my second pass...

Since I didn't quite get BBS yesterday with a lot of passes, I decided to back off just a touch and shave more comfortably...

How so? I chose not to do any ATG buffing on my chin or upper lip, and just replace that work with an extra XTG pass. Results were very good: BBS on cheeks and jawline; DFS on chin and mustache. The shave was enjoyable, easy, efficient. No blood, no irritation to note.

The Lemon Chill Glacial splash gave its usual peak (alcohol) and crash (menthol) which is always a fun ride. Due to the comfort this razor affords, it was pleasant all the way. Happy weekend!

Wonderful under-rated soap. Love the wonderful scent and enjoy the thickly creamy slick lather...
Shave with vintage razor paired with the blade with an added shim was very nice. Really smooth and comfortable and can feel the blade is still crisply sharp & rigidly held up during the atg pass on the chin/lips area. The result was a mostly bbs finish.
Aftershaves were awesomely cool!! Rating 9.8/10

Very close and comfortable DFS in 3 passes ! :001_wub:

Saturday morning.

Windrose 6/8 x 2.5" barber's notch straight razor
Kent BLK2 "grey badger" brush
Palmolive shave stick
Marks and Spencer "Woodspice" (green) aftershave

Like the "All British" model there's no wedge arrangement on the scales so they can feel a bit floppy, but it's got a good look and feel and the edge seems to be lasting.

Small brush with a shave stick wasn't an obvious choice, but the Kent did well. The Palmolive stick takes me back to my college days with a Wilkinson "Classic" DE and a Culmak brush - before the intervening dark ages of cartridges and canned muck. The aftershave is a reliable high street label - not as much of a bargain as the Superdrug offerings, but a sensible sub-£10 price.

Smooth and comfortable. I'll give it a "9".

Soap/Cream: Tabac (glass jar puck)
Brush: Mühle Silvertip fibre M
Razor: Merkur 38C

2 passes (WTG/ATG), excellent shave, went for a DFS and got it too. Love these blades. And I sure love the Tabac soap!

9/10 for me

Using my da Vinci 293 Silvertip brush today. This is one underrated brush, IMHO. Nice backbone but soft tips. The AS-D2 and Feather blade make for a close comfortable shave.

Razor: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing (Bullet Tip)
Blade: GEM PTFE
Brush: Yaqi Moka 26mm 2 band Badger
Soap: Haslinger Ringelblumen
Lather: Face
Post: Thayers WH Aloe
Aftershave: Stirling Ramblin’ Man

The Shave: WTG and ATG with a quick goatee touch up for a DFS. The big Moka caressed my face as the Ringelblumen exploded into lather, it was like Spring was blooming at my sink.
Always impressed with the easy and efficient shave of the vintage GEM razors and today was no exception, my skin is BBS in all the usual places and only a few of the really tough spots have minor ATG stubble, impressive for a 10 minute shave. Great shave to start the day.
