Shave Rating: 9/10
Last night's shave was my sixth shave with this sample and another enjoyable one. I probably have one shave (maybe 2) left with this sample but I'm leaning towards not purchasing a full size tube of it. I think I should be able to get another shave out of the sample (at least a single pass) before I either go back to my rotation or try one of my T&H sample bag.
Overall an irritation free shave with no feedback from the Alum block, the BIC blade is still feeling both sharp and smooth after 6 shaves.

I had to relocate to the guest bathroom for quarantine, and this is the kit I selected to get me through. 10/10 every time.

Today's kit :

Vintage Thomas Turner "Encore" 6/8 round point straight razor
Nom "Theo" dark ash boar brush
Wickham's "Russian Leather" soap
Vintage (1980s) Yardley Gold "Classic" (the black stopper, not the definitive dark red) aftershave

Nice shave. The TT was originally part of a 7 day set and the spine is etched "Sunday", so despite my resentment of attention-seeking razors telling me what to do, it often comes out at this time of the week. The soap smells a lot like "Imperial Leather" and I almost went with their 1980s "Classic" aftershave (that seemed to be the word to use in the 80s - sounded weird then, but kind of fits now), but I have more left of the Yardley and it was calling to me this morning.

I'll give it a "9".

Splashed hot water on face, worked up a ten second lather of PdP with a T2, took three passes with a Feather (11) in an AS-D2, showered, and splashed on 4711 cologne. BBS 10/10. I am glad I ended my experiment with Mennen Skin Bracer and returned to 4711. I prefer its less oily, straight alcohol post shave feel. I also like its scent and that it fades quickly.

I've given this a lot of thought.

Lab Blue = 7

To give you some context, I rate the blades 1-10 based on how well the blade *consistently* provides a good quality shave (both closeness and no alum burn). Obviously my prep, software, and technique plays a role. And since I like aggressiveness, I would say that my ratings are absolutely biased towards preferring a blade that is sharp. Some of these blades I haven't used in a while and my technique has improved. And G7B is the worst blade for me so far, causes nicks, but I've only tried one so maybe it's a dud. I started by giving PSI a 10 Astra SP 5 (it's my benchmark for an average blade), and G7B 1, and then filled in everything else. The number in parens is max shaves per blade.

10 Polsilver SI (8)
8 Feather (2)
7 G Nacet
7 G 7 o'clock yellow (6)
7 Personna Lab Blue
7 Personna Med Prep
6 Kai
5 Astra SP (5)
5 Dorco ST301 (4)
5 Wilkinson Sword (7)
4 Shark SS (4)
4 Vidyut Supermax (5)
4 Derby Extra (1) **
1 G 7 o'clock black (7) *

** = tuggy
* = random nicks (maybe dud blade)

If I were to rate them only by resulting closeness and ignoring alum burn, then the list would probably the be same but with Feather = 10, Kai = 8, PSI = 7, G7B = 7.

I hope that answers your question.
I definitely agree with your top 3, the only other blade I like for smoothness is Voskhod

reworked the Wosty yesterday and got her off the tape habit. reset bevel and on up. also fixed minor issue on show side spine I could feel. tape hid the deficiency I believe. edge is good but can be a hair better by my standards. will revisit the Surgical Ark again and end with the Shobu.

its raining yet again.....looks like another evening hunt.

be well all.

Yesterday's, really.

Gave my fat boy a second chance after the day before yesterday's horrible shave, this time I changed the blade to an Astra SP and I adjusted it to 5.

Excellent shave, close to BBS even in difficult parts (9/10).

So I assume the adjustment plus the blade made all the difference.

Recap:

Prep: J&J Baby oil
Soap: TBS Maca Root
Blade: Astra SP
Razor: Gillette Adjustable (Fatboy)
Brush: NN horse hair
Aftershave: Aderma + Swiss Just Arnica Balm.

Prep: Sauna, cold shower
Soap: Proraso green cream
Brush: Omega 49
Razor: Karve CB Stainless, OC-C
Blade: Rapira Super Stainless
Aftershave: Alum, Maol Grooming Frankenlime

10/10, great start to the day. Maybe the best part, as we're expecting 15 - 20 cm. of snow.

The Rapira has been a nice surprise this week. I've had it sitting around for a while and finally decided to try it. Over the last 7 shaves I've found it very sharp, but also very smooth. Maybe a new favourite.

Pre Shave: Warm shower, Glycerin Face Wash, Crown Pre Shave Gel

I heard the Yaqi knights helmet is a good aggressive razor if that is what person likes! Interesting looking head they designed.
