Rating:
9.5 DFS+ A nice 1st shave with a fresh blade. Minimal stubble, one nick—my clumsiness, but no weepers. Yesterday, I shifted my uber soap to the enamel mug. I did this because the handle broke off of the teapot I was using to heat water for shaving. I was using a teapot because our home's in-line water heater is in the garage. Hot water would take 2 or 3 minutes to get to my MBR sink.

48-hour beard

Gillette '56 Red Tip/Rapira blade (3)

Mix of TOBS Peppermint cream and Stirling Bay Rum & Noir soaps

Semogue boar brush

Clubman SR aftershave, Assured lotion, Clubman powder

After yesterday's discussion of mixing soaps and creams, I gave it a try. Showered, a little TOBS Peppermint as a pre-shave, then whipped up some soap and a dab of the TOBS cream and began to face-lather. The Red Tip sliced through teh undergrowth like a machete: pass 1, WTG; pass 2, ATG, pass 3 and cleanup, XTG. Near BBS, no irritation or nicks. Verdict: 9.6.

ARKO First Timer!!!!
After seeing posts of this "Arlo" banter I was sent a picture of an Arlo stick in an antique store by a family member. So 3 bucks later it was headed my direction.

I have shave stick questions but that goes in another thread.

So today I jumped over to a Bullet Tip SE. One of my favorite razors and it reminded me why. I loaded a coated blade and there isn't a whisker to be found. Some redness. But no whiskers :)

Some post care if witch hazel and Stirling Executive Man splash. Some Executive Man edt before leaving the bathroom and a morning shave is complete.

A few red dots and a hot spot or two lower the score after banging out about 7 fantastic shaves. It happens...

8.1/10

Brush: Wild West Brushworks “Alamo”/ 24mm AP Shave Co. Synbad fan knot
Soap: Stirling Sandpiper
Razor: Razorock Mamba 70
Blade: Gillette Platinum
Post: Stirling Eucalyptus Mint Splash

10/10: The goal was no irritation and this turned out just perfectly. The Synbad knot is my favorite synthetic knot and is a beautiful match with this “Alamo” handle and color scheme.

Pre-Shave: OPR Bay Rum soap
Soap: Captain's Choice Venture
Brush: Fendrihan Tuxedo synthetic
Razor: Charcoal Goods SS SB LvL2
Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1)
Post-Shave: Cold water splash - Thayers Witch Hazel - Lucky Tiger Face Tonic
AS: Captain's Choice Venture

I'll start out by saying that I have several razors now, that, paired with the right blade, perform beyond my expectations. The Charcoal Goods SS LvL2 is one of them. For me, shaves don't get much better than the one I got this morning. And rather than continuing on...I'll leave it at that.

Happy Shaves, Everyone!

  • George Jetson Edition = Fatip OC Mk2 base + Merkur 23c cap + WCS 84s handle
  • Today's shave equipment was randomly chosen, do you want to play a game?

Soap: Cella
Razor: Gillette NEW LC
Blade: 7 O'clock SS (2)
Brush: Omega boar
Aftershave: Pinaud VIBR
Balm: Nivea Sensitive

Went ATG, something I've never been able to pull off comfortably. This was probably my best attempt yet, and feeling confident going ATG comfortably the next time I try it too. I'm sure it's mostly an improvement on my ATG technique (after all of my bad attempts over the time I've been wet shaving) or maybe my face is slowly adapting, but either way I'm surprised I didn't have a blood bath this morning. VERY happy about it.

9.5/10 Not completely BBS, but getting there. Cheeks are definitely BBS. Face feels great. Unsure when I will try it again, but for now on I want to try going ATG at least twice a week.

Rainy Day, Dream Away (Jimi H)
I'm having a morning of total leisure. It’s raining and I have no schedule or plans today.
I took my time with my shave, and all the products worked together perfectly.

Still breaking in my brush, trying a new cream and using a razor that doesn’t get out much.

I’m nice and BBS with a wonderfully relaxed post shave face. WK toner and TOBS luxury gel complete that good face feeling.

I'm all set for some rainy day dreaming.

All is wonderful.
