...Tomorrow I’ll steam my face more, mug/bowl lather, and maybe shave with filtered water.
Simple filtering won't change the mineral content of your water. You could use distilled, reverse osmosis filtered, rainwater(!), or add citric acid as used in canning.

Shave 20200124

Continuing my 2020 Resolution to stop chasing BBS!

Prep: Splashed water on face
Pre-shave: n/a
Brush: Shavemac 26mm Synthetic 'Flattop' Fan
Soap/Cream: Tabac
Bowl: n/a (face lathered, Bamboo bowl to 'dip the tips')
Razor: Gillette #34 Tech (Germany), TiBam Handle
Blade: PolSilver SI (4)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Hydrating Toner
Aftershave Balm: Proraso Blue
Cologne: Guerlain Vetiver EdT

WTG, XTG. ATG in selected areas. Minor touch-up and buffing.

DFS++ with zero weepers nicks, cuts or irritation.

The German #34 Tech is a great Tech. Makes shaving effortless. The shave is smooth, comfortable and 'Tech Efficient'. A very relaxing shave.

Can't say enough good things about Tabac. What a fantastic soap!

Great combination of hardware and software!

YMMV

Tabac
Yaqi 26mm Moka Express
Turkish copper bowl
Gillette Slim(setting 9)
Gillette Platinum 3rd use
Alum + Thayers Lemon + Cavendish aftershave
Good lather from the soap brush and bowl combo. Excellent quality....thick & slick.
Shave was suprisingly smooth and efficient with razor & blade pairing. 3+1pass...wtg, xtg/atg & x2 atg. No weepers nor irritation and able to buff the resistant area below jawline better.
Result is 9.5/10 BBS 95% but definitely a DFS!

Silver Star (1)
Omega 49 boar
365 glycerin soap pre-shave
Osma Tradition hard soap (glass jar)
Dickinson's WH + rose water + aloe vera
Proraso White balm

Enjoyable, close shave; DFS+

Notes:
  • Silver Star blade worked extremely well in the slant; surprisingly smooth and sharp
  • Osma Tradition soap is outstanding in my book but seldom mentioned on the forums
  • DIY witch hazel aftershave recipe experiment continues with very small amount of aloe vera added

Mühle R41 Twist
Feather Hi-Stainless (2)
Palmolive Stick (face lather)
Simpson Berkeley 46
Aqua Velva Ice Blue

6 / 10 (but not the fault of my gear)

Marginally better shave today, and still fighting the hard water. I may bring a brushless cream with me next time.

Today's Shave:
  • Prep. Wash face with Neutrogena Liquid Facial Soap. Wet face. Apply GD preshave.
  • Soap: GD After the Fire
  • Brush: Shavemac 28mm Syn
  • Razor: Karve Brass SB with C plate
  • Blade: Lord Chrome SC
  • Aftershave: Thayers Rose Petal WH + DR Harris Arlington Aftershave Milk
  • Rating: 10/10

Pulled out my first razor that I started DE shaving with a year ago, it's been sitting in the storage for months now, victim of newer and fancier stuff.

Prep: Hot shower
Razor: Baili TTO
Blade: Feather (2)
Soap: Soap Commander Courage
Brush: Maggard 26mm synthetic
Aftershave: Cold water, Aqua Velva Ice Blue, Dickinson's WH, Nivea Balm

Rating: 9 out of 10. BBS in 3 passes with some clean-up. This razor is a little too mild and too angle sensitive for my taste (compared to, say, Variant) but does its job wonderfully.
