The battle contines !!

Tried the Astra SP blade and after the 1st WTG pass quickly changed back to a Gillette Platinum as the former was so rough and I got 2 nicks which I very rarely get.

Finished the shave with the Gillette and TBH it may have been slightly smoother than previous shaves with the Blackbird but the Astra had already caused a bit of irritation.

Can't fault the end result as it is BBS all over but just wasn't the pleasant shave I'm used to with the Karve (it is a closer result than the Karve IMO) Will contine for another week or so before deciding if it is just too aggresive for me - or hopefully if I can get it to work :)

Soap again from Ariana & Evans performed great - fantastic cushion and glide and even after this "rougher" shave the post feeling was soft and felt great. I want to continue using this during the razor trial as I then know everything else can be as good as possible :)

It is nice to know that someone else thinks the Astra SP is rough. I have never understood how people can give this blade such high praise. Proof positive YMMV!!!

Excellent gear.

Prep: Splashed water on face
Pre-shave: Cremo
Brush: Graydog Backyard Maple Chubby, 26mm "Full Moon" Synthetic
Soap: WCS PEAR-BRRR SHOPPE Duckfat Soap
Bowl: Timeless Blue
Razor: Gillette Old Type, CG Brass Handle
Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium (5)
Post-shave: Crystal Alum Stick; Dickinson's Hydrating Skin Toner
Aftershave Balm: Duke Cannon w/Menthol
Aftershave: Clubman Reserve Whiskey Woods

WTG, ATG and XTG. Minor touch-up and buffing.

DFS++ with zero weepers, nicks, cuts or irritation.

This Old Type is such a great razor! Fixing the corners (thank you @Esox ) really transformed it. I can use a steep angle (preferred) or, where needed, a medium shallow angle and the Old Type still mows down the whiskers. Definitely has a place in the Top Tier of my razors.

Fourth shave with the @Graydog Backyard Maple Chubby, 26mm "Full Moon" Synthetic. Not only is it a wonderful face lathering brush, it also whips up a great bowl of lather and makes it easy to paint it evenly to my beard. Excellent all around brush.

This combination of Hardware and Software delivered a really smooth, comfortable, top-flight shave! :)

YMMV

Lord Super Chrome (1)
RR Blondie - face lathering
Osma Tradition soap
Dickinson's WH + Roberts Rose Water
Proraso Green liquid cream aftershave

Relaxing shave; DFS

Notes:
  • RR Blondie is a rebranded Zenith which unfortunately does not have much backbone (unlike my other Zenith). Probably works OK as a bowl lathering brush; face lathering with it was like applying lather with a boar bristle mop. Amusing, but won't be doing it again anytime soon.
  • Lord Super came from a PIF; FaTip works OK with it; not bad, we'll see how long the blade lasts.
  • Proraso Green balm in honor of warmer weather here today. 😏

Great lather, fantastic brush and razor. I’m enjoying switching back to the feather after a few days with Kai blades, but for some reason had a couple of weepers today so not a perfect shave.

First use of the Semogue mixed 50/50 Boar and Badger brush .. Interesting and think it could be very nice - totally different from the synthetics

MDC performed very well and the shave was pretty much perfect but did lack a bit in the post shave feel that I've got used to with Ariana & Evans ...

Smooth and Irritation free using the Karve ... night and day from the Blackbird

Nice, clean shave; DFS

Notes:
  • Very happy with the Fine soap - fairly milld scent like the old AOS Sandalwood, suits me since I don't really want a heavy scent.
  • Lord Super Chrome smoothing out; very OK blade
  • Semogue 1250 always a pleasure, still improving with use
