What did I buy?

Bought a vintage mug of old spice with a puck in it on the 'Bay. Also included this razor and brush. Hoping to learn a little bit about the razor if anyone can ID it. I don't know squat about DE's.

Also the seller thought brush was a shaving brush... looks like a very bad one if that's the case, I'd say a brush for sweeping the neck, but bristles look too short. Almost looks like a weird handled hairbrush to me. Anyone know?

A 50's or 60's flare tip Super Speed.

Read the date code (a letter and a number) from the underside of the head and we can tell you when it was made.

Most likely that Super Speed was made in the first half of the sixties.

The date code will be below REG U.S. on the under side of the head. Should be F-1960, through K-1965

I say this because there are no lines around the TTO knob.

The brush is a neck duster. Useless in a home setting IMO, but neat score.

The Gillette shave seems fine. Not as close as I get with a straight (but I have only used a DE maybe 3 times before), but definitely faster.


The old spice is now the best soap I've ever used. Something finally supplanted Tabac. You old guys aren't kidding with your "Back in MY day..." lines about shaving soap. This stuff lathers right up like Tabac with plenty of slip and cushion.
