What cost less se's or de's

doctordial

my brain goes "thonk"
I have a 1924 and a 39C I switch back and forth between. Although,I try to stretch out the use of my blades, I get good shaves from both and many times better shaves from 1924 than from my 39C I think. So my question is it less cost using the se blades. They do rust if you don't dry them of well. I had a se blade that I wasn't finished with and left on the sink and it rusted, but not on the cutting edge. I was afraid to use it so I put back in the used side of the blade vault. I still have some DE blades left ,but I'm thinking when they are gone just sticking with the SE's. Does anyone have any opinions or experiance in this?

The prices for blades are comparable. Treet carbon steel blades run about $0.10 each at AMZN. Astra SP blades about the same at many vendors. I can get 2-3 good shaves from a Treet blade. Maybe 4 from an Astra.

Sounds like you were using a carbon steel blade, if you use a stainless steel blade in your SE razor you shouldn't have rusting issues. Or pull the carbon blade and dry it off. I can get more shaves out of an injector blade than I can from a DE. I'm on #10 right now with my Schick Adjustable and a Personna NOS Platinum Chrome Blade. I can usually get 5-6 good shaves out of a DE blade before I replace it.

I get at least double the shaves from an injector or SE blade than I do from a DE blade. Cost of the SS coated blades are pretty much the same if I buy injector or SE blades in bulk of 100 or more. Advantage SE/injector based on blade value.

Personally, I got ~4-5 comfortable (no irritation, tugging or nicks) shaves from most DE blades, Personna Meds and Rapira SS went to 8 comfortable shaves. For Gem or Ever-Ready SE's, I had better results with Carbon Steel Blades, ~7-8 comfortable shaves, Any SS blade I've used has irritated me on the first shave, corked or not, and then 6-7 comfortable shaves were possible. Since March 2012, I've strictly Injector shave, except for a week with the Krona DE and a week with my G-Bar, neither was as satisfying as Injectors for me and prefer Vintage Blades.

Current Production Injector Blades, Chinese Schick's usually give me ~12 comfortable shaves out of 15, with #3, 5 & 7 having tugging problems, with the Personna brand I get ~14 comfortable shaves. I prefer the Personna and keep 40 blades as a back-up to my Vintage Blade Rotation.

My stock of Vintage (#) Blades, from least to favorite IME; Gillette Super Stainless (16), Schick Krona Edge (75), Schick Ultra Platinum Blades (20), Schick Platinum (60)and Schick Plus Platinum (28) for 199 Vintage blades for those keeping score. I recently added 160 Vintage Schick Injector Blades, unknown finish (SS or Platinum), in a Black injector case; US PAT; 1806087- 1969345, I have no opinion on them since these haven't been tested. New total is 259 Vintage Blades, I'm set for a few years. :001_tongu

The the Vintage Blades are all very sharp & smooth, with the Schick Platinum series being smoothest for me. I took the Plus Platinum blade to 35 shaves, 34 of them were comfortable & stayed sharp with no special care besides a rinse after shaving, any of the Vintage Blades can give me at least 15 comfortable shaves (three weeks @ 5 days per week).

No matter which type you choose, any of them are inexpensive compared to Carts or Disposables.
