What's new

What cha call it?

What do you suppose this one is? It's billed as a 1910 King Gillette Pocket Edition.

It looks like a bell end, comparing on Mr. Razor's site, but the bell looks longer.

I don't know what it is, but I know that it is NOT a "1910 King Gillette Pocket Edition" (except perhaps for the box). I also am pretty sure that the razor itself was not manufactured by Gillette. If you're thinking of buying this, I'd think again if I were you.

The box looks like it was a pocket edition box. The razor appears to be a Frankenrazor... the handle looks very much like a Durham Duplex DE handle, with some OC head on it. I'm not taking a guess on the head part since there's not a lot of info to go by in the photo, other than the bullet posts, which only really narrow it down a little bit.

i didn't buy it, I was watching it on the bay. I'd like an ABC Pocket but can't really afford it unless one sneaks by. It went for $22ish plus shipping from Canada. After buying a kit from England the other day I'm a bit off of buying from out of the US.
I'd say $22 is reasonable for the case. The seller says it is marked Gillette Made in Canada.
Heres a link if you'd like more pics. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-KING-GILLETTE-1910-POCKET-EDITION-RAZOR-CASE-AND-BLADES-/310644887464?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=e7YO%252Fv2T9XNoUCLjZFOtX%252FNtS3U%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Frankenrazor... I'll buy that. I kinda like it though. I need another razor like I need another hole in the head. I set a limit I'm sticking to it Damn it! :) Unless it's a nice ABC for less than $100. ;)

Found a pic for a matching Durham Duplex handle. Looks like a match to me any hoo.

Apparently the blades are obsolete so sticking a ball end that's cracked would make sense.
Mystery solved! ;)

There are actually some lab blades made by Personna that will fit the Durham razors. I have a few still, it shaves like a straight razor on a handle... the handle part is great when you put a Gillette Tuckaway head onto it, however. lol That was why I recognized the handle, since I have a Frankenrazor I use much like the one on ebay there.

I can't see much difference in the W&B and the Durham's handles. I do believe the original might have finer knurls like D said, but the seller said the head was marked Gillette and the bullets look different so I'm inclined to buy that.

Thanks! The case draw my attention in the first place but i like the handle too. I`ll post some pics upon arrival. The problem is, now i have to buy the rest of ABC set!

Ha ha, he said 'bell end'.

Ha... bell end, bell end, bell end... what???? :wink2:

In my vast weeks of looking, I haven't seen a ABC razor solo. I have seen them with ball end techs... I think I've seen that as original packaging too. Perhaps that could be a new resident.

It arrived yesterday. The case is in bad shape but I`m not a collector and I kinda like it. It shaves wonderful! The handle is great (W&B or Durham), but I don`t know how to date the head. Anybody?

I like it. Kinda cool the case is engraved too. IMO... not so much as a strict ABC collector but historically... sort of. :) You could restore the case too. I started a question about such things and got some great advice. I think it was Alex that suggested this modeling clay stuff. Poly clay... stuff and then put some purple cloth around it and you're in it.
The razor looks pretty clean too. I like the handle, better than a cracked ball end tech, IMO.
I'm still dreaming about an ABC. (sigh) maybe someday.
Enjoy
