Either go with an Omega boar ($25 or less) or the Vulfix 404 'Grosvenor' boar/badger blend ($25-30).
Check out the Tweezerman - badger brush for about $15.
+1 on the Tweezerman. It's been a great brush!

This brush has gotten glowing reviews. I also own this brush and think it is soft and comfortable. The only thing is, I think the handle is rather cheap. I have the tortoise shell looking one, maybe the ivory one is different.

You know, I sort of hate to admit it, but the Omega 10049 is the brush I use and enjoy most often. Because it's a little damp near the ocean where I live, I have two so that I can let them dry out between uses. But if I could figure out a way to justify buying another (handle color?) I'd buy another.
West Coast Shaving has 'em for $9.

Semogue 830/SOC, or a TGN Super Silvertip/Extra Stuffed Finest glued into a handle.
You can also find a Rooney 3/1 in pure badger for $40. It's very similar to the EJ in best.

You need to "justify" buying a $9 brush?
Its more fun and you connect with the little bugger. You can custom make it the way you like. Finally if you don't like it you can probably sell it here for what you have in it.
Another vote for the Omega 49. A ridiculously good brush for ten bucks or so.
Vulfix 404 is an amazing brush I recently purchased. Get it you will be happy
Under $40, you're much better off going with a high quality boar brush, as you'll be making a bunch of compromises with the vast majority of badgers at that price.

I am now totally brushless, but from what I have read, the Semoque boars are hard to beat. I'd look into one of them first. My Simpson badgers are too expensive.
