What's new

What blade do you use?

Feathers or Sputniks, both corked twice per edge in my Fat Boy. Dorco in my President. Corking tames these bad boys quite nicely. First tried once per side then settled on two.

I don't have a dense beard, but the stubble is hard and wirey, growing in all sorts of different directions on my neck.

I use (uncorked) Feathers in my Fat Boy and Slim adjustables, everything else seems blunt in comparison.

What works for me may differ from what will work best for you. I get good results from both Merkur and Personna blades in both my Merkur and Gillette razors. While my beard is full and I have to shave everyday, it is not particularly challenging. Blades and razors usually considered mild work well for me.

This morning I used a Gillette Tech with a Personna blade and it was smooth as smooth can be. For others that combo would give a miserable shave, way too mild.

My suggestion is to get a variety of blades and see what works best. Try the sampler pack from LetterK and see what combos work best for you.

Treet Stainless, Feathers, 7 a.m.'s, have given me the best shaves out of my sampler packs so far. The crappiest blades for me were Sputnik and Dorco.

Murker blades are decent and seem to give good shaves and last a long time.

Still have more to try.

I knew that Dorcos were Korean made, but just discovered that their head office is about fifteen minutes from my apartment. Oddly enough, I have NEVER seen the blades for sale here.

I used Feathers for everything, until I discovered Wilkinsons UK. Then I used those until I discovered Wilkinsons Germany. Then... Right now I'm totally in love with the Treet carbon steel blade, a black beauty that's like Feathers that have gone to ninja school: sharp but very smooth.

Ooooh, Michael! I have a couple of pucks of these in my sampler pack that I've been dying to have a go at! So glad your review was tops. Going home later and doing my blade replacement on my Slant. I got a really, really good shave with those other Treets.:001_wub:

Tried my Slavette today for the first time and lived to tell about it. I smell a real cut throat coming my way soon...

The reason I never saw them sold has been revealed to me. Apparently i wasn't looking in the right place. After perusing some Korean online shopping malls I discovered that if I really wanted to find the Dorco blades I should have been looking in the.....*drum roll please*.....school supplies!

I have the best luck with Swedish Gs and Feathers. I really like the Feather shave but can't use them every day so I switch off.

I use a corked Feather with all. Works well for me. Since I have found a combo that works, I dont have the time or patience to experiment. YMMV.

Best of luck and happy shaving!

 r..rreally? where you buy pencils and watercolors and pens and the like? Boys that's marketing.
Maybe there's some deep logic buried after those choices. In Italy supermarkets are moving the whole blade/cartridege/shave area from the small stands near the cashier's desks in or close to the cosmetic department. That's logic but also way closer to the school area then before. Maybe they tracked the 'geographic' behaviour of buyers inside big supermarkets and the Korean went directly to the extreme choice...

HEMA double edge blades ("no brand").
Very cheap 1.50EUR for a 10 blade pack in Belgium.

(it's a dutch chain)
The blades are quite good (chrome-teflon). Each blade in wraped in a write paper (much like Merkurs except there is no glue or wax to fix the blade).

I also use (rarely) Gillette "Super Silver" DE blades that are available in local supermarkets (costs about 3.75EUr for a 10 blade dispensor) - and sometimes Merkur DE blades in specialised shops (cost about 4.50EUR for 10).

I use a Fat Boy with Feathers and IPs and get great results with both. I'm currently working through a sampler pack with Treets and Sputniks, etc. I did really like the Treet Blue Special carbon Blade.

Swede Gillettes or Feathers. I marginally prefer Feathers, but I do usually get at least one tiny nik after shaving with them, that I don't normally get with the Swedes.
