What beats Mike's?

I bought a tub of the orange, cedarwood, and black pepper and I think it is my best shave soap. I have more than 10. So what's next? I'm thinking Arlington or Tabac. How do these compare? I've already tried MWF and I couldn't get it to work no matter what I tried. The scent, IMO, is terrible too.

My first tin of Mike's should be here tomorrow or the next day so I'll be sure to swing back by and let you know if I think I have used anything better

Tabac and Arlington are pretty highly regarded by most on here. I prefer Tabac of those two, but the scent of Tabac may not please everyone. I think Tabac is easier to lather and protects better for me at least.

Only soap I think might be better than Mikes or Mystic Water (tied for my two favorite soaps) would be Martin de Candre. Easier to lather than Tabac, amazing scent, outstanding protection, leaves my skin feeling great. Only problem is cost (mainly because of cost of shipping from France). But for $9 a bar/puck from Mike or Michelle vs $60 a jar for MdC.......I would rather purchase 6 different flavors of thier stuff than have one tub of MdC. But if your like me and already own all your favorite scents from Mike and Michelle, then you should probably try MdC. I think Garry has samples available right now too , so you can try a decent size sample before forking out the $60.

Get some samples of all of Mike's.

One I like are Rose/Cedarwood, Pine/Cedarwood, Orange/Cedarwood, Pepper, and Peppermint/Rosemary.

All of these are superior to Arlington and Tabac, IMO.

The only soaps on Par with Mike's are AOS, and P160. Yes its that good.

IMO of course.

MWF is more of an aquired scent. What I've found with Tabac is that it's a nice smell, but I can only stand it for a couple of minutes. After that, it becomes a headache. Arlington is a great smell.

Mike's and Mystic Waters soaps are excellent because most commercial soaps are created with making the most money with less possible sacrifices. Theirs are made with the highest grade ingredients without sacrifice.

Nothing I've tried really 'beats' Mikes, but I've never tried MDC which sounds awesome. On par with Mikes is AoS, Mystic Water and MWF. I have a bunch I enjoy right outside that group, but just performance those are my best.

MWF. Arlington is nice and develops a lather easily. If you've had trouble with MWF, however, you may have trouble with other "hard" soaps. Putting a few drops of warm water on the puck of hard soap, plus using a brush with a lot of backbone should aid you in lathering hard soaps. I like the new Lea shave stick, too. And Speick is among my favorites.

Cella, Arko, Tabac, Palmolive stick, MWF. To name a few that beat Mikes. Sorry but I really don't want to have to work that hard to get a good lather. Once the lather is made it is a wonderful soap but way more work than it should be. YMMV

Just ordered orange, cedarwood, pepper shave soap and a shea butter bath soap. This wetshaving is going to break me :scared:

Nothing beats mikes. But Tabac is close. Oh, by the way, mikes is very easy to lather.

How do you do it? I really struggle with it. I love the smell and once the lather is made
I put it up there with Castle Forbes creams but I have not found a easy way to get it done. I have soft water so that isn't the problem. I really want to know.

Okay so I just bought enough CELLA and MWF to last a year (or maybe more) and that is in addition to the NIVEA and the 3 x KMF's I bought with a $3 off coupon
and the Free sample kit I just got from the New AOS store. Now I discover that there is yet another SOAP that I "MUST HAVE" - MIKES.

I am wondering how many years (and how much cash) it will take me to try all the things I want to try and buy.

I use mikes as a shave stick primarily. I cut the bars into quarters and wrap each piece in foil. Apply to wet face and swirl with a once shaken wet brush....poof!! Great lather! You may have to add some water. When I bowl lather I soak the brush and the soap then load for 15-20 seconds with a once shaken brush letting any extra spill into my bowl. Then whip for 45 seconds or so adding water of needed. This has been one of the easiest soaps for me to lather. Right along with Mystic water and QCS

Thanks, I'll try that. Are you using a badger or boar brush? Or horse or synthetic for that matter. I really want to like this stuff!
