Shonen Knife, "Watchin' Girl"

Soundtrack from Hannibal. Hans Zimmer is a great soundtrack composer, and the music is always well produced right up to the point where any more production would be too much.

Track 12, Vide Cor Meum, is one of the most hauntingly beautiful, heartrending pieces of music I have ever heard. It describes a dream of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri who, having met Beatrice formerly and fallen deeply in love, sees his love sleeping, nestled in the arm of a large angel, glowing red with unbounded joy and passion. In the other angelic hand is held the burning heart of Dante. The apparition awakens the beauty Beatrice and commands her eat this heart, which, trembling, she does. Then, in heartrending bitterness the angel leaps heavenward with Beatrice, leaving Dante behind.

This music traces so well the emotive content of the Alighieri sonnet that I never fail to be moved by it.
