When I first started doing booze reviews a few years back, I sought out small distillers as a way of "keeping things local" for people who I knew. Black's Distillery in Peterborough was one of the first places I went to, with a small group of friends, and he was nice enough to provide a "barrel pull" from "something new" he had just started working on.
