What am I doing wrong?

Water to Soap ratio is big deal. I live in low humidity area.

So I am sure I need more water then person in High Humidity area.

I think you might be right. I will try more soap less water.
This is the soap I use, Speick cream.

Why dont you just try face lathering?

The use of a bowl is just a redundant additional step which 'weakens' the lather through aeriation.

Just smear a pea sized amount of cream to your wet face and apply the wet brush. You will get an excellent lather which will be much more controllable. Your face acts as the primary medium for judging the lather creation. Add water in drops to your brush to control consistency.

If Speick is as good as I have heard it is, it should readily adapt to this method.

You will easily create enough lather in the brush for three passes.

More product and more water is the rule of thumb if you don't have enough lather for three passes.

+1! Definitely! Start with more product, then add a few drops of water at a time until you get the lather you want.

That's a good point too. That is why I stopped using a ridged shaving bowl, they can whip in too much air which makes for high volume, but airy and not slick soap.

Just face lather: it is the simplest approach with creams. Daub a few spots on your face and neck and away you go...

I prefer using a shave stick for face lathering. I just got done shaving and I tried not whipping the lather so much and it worked out just fine. That was the problem, too much air.
