What's new

what a new tobac

I really want to try the Frog Morton Cellar but I'm afraid to get that much in case I do not like it. I really have not had good luck with Tobacco yet. I know lot of you swear by it. so is it worth pulling the trigger on it? Also Does anyone know of a good tobac store in Norfolk area? thanks for your interest and advice.

right now I have prince albert cherry, and borkum riff. not that exciting I know there are better out there so its time to get hunting. I like flavor and sweet.

I believe all of the Frog Morton's are latakia heavy blends. That's not to say you won't like them, but from what I know, they are probably going to taste quite a bit different than what you are used too. They are extremely popular though, so you should have no issue with trading it for something more to your liking if you find you greatly dislike it.

I personally have only ever tasted Latakia in the Sail blend, so I am not sure if I like it, or dislike it. I did love Sail though.

Personally, I have been cutting my newbie teeth on OTC blends. Currently open I have Cater Hall, Half and Half, Middleton's Cherry Blend, Middleton's Apple Pipe Tobacco, and Captain Black Regular. I've got Sir Walter Raleigh, Price Albert, and a 12oz can of Granger on backup.

I personally think you should pick up some Captain Black Regular (aka Captain Black White; due to it's white label) just to see how very different pipe tobacco can taste. It's has a very dark smokey flavor, with little in the way of actual tobacco flavor. Vastly different from what you have been smoking!! The Captain Black should be locally available.

If you are looking to branch out a bit, there is this sampler:

A couple of the blends are medium in the latakia department, that should help you decide if you do or do not like that flavor component. You get 5 different 1oz samples for like $17 after shipping. Won't break a bank, and gives you some stuff to expand your exposure with.

The descriptive text says each sample is 1/4 of an ounce. So 1.25 oz total for the entire sampler. I would hardly call $17 for an ounce of tobacco a good deal.

The Victory Lap Sampler at Pipes and Cigars is a much better deal giving you 8oz of tobacco for $19.95 (+shipping).

My local tobaccanist has bulk tobacco. I bought two ounces of 8 different types for pretty cheap. You should see if there is a brick and mortar near you.

Yea Unfortunatly the best I have seen so far is Tobacco and cigar which has very limited tobaccos. If I want OTC Tobac I could just go to Wallgreens for cheeper. I wish I knew of a better place. Perhaps this is not the most populated area for pipes.

FM Cellar comes in 2 oz. tins as well as the bigger 4 oz. You'd be surprised how fast a little tin goes, if you've never had one before. Also, I'm sure you could easily trade it off with someone here (negotiated away B&B, or course) as they all seem to be ga-ga over it.
