Wet soap

Sorry if this has been covered to death, but--

Should a cake of shaving soap in a box with a screw-on top (like Em's) or a push-on top (like Proraso) be left uncovered, or loosely covered, when wet? Will it get nasty if it's covered tightly? Will it dry out and crack if it's left uncovered for too long?

It should not be left wet as this will soften the soap. Dry it off before covering. After shaving, I leave mine out 'till evening then cover.

I load with a pretty dry brush that only leaves behind a thick paste. I leave it out for a little while and then store it.
