20 bucks :001_tt2:

Sweet! Did you leave anything for me?

some ;)

there is still another TTO, the other 2 kits, a DE blade stropper, some GEM single edge and a SE, not sure what the model was as i was being barraged by someone trying to sell me Cologne that was from out of state :thumbdown so get to it! i left you some

Nice find there. I really like the HIS travel kit. Has everything you need to be a well groomed man. I went today and checked out my local antique shop after doc appt. and found only some Schrade straight razors. They had no DE razors at all and the guy said they seem to be pretty popular right now. Hmmmmmm

i tried the williams about 10 minutes ago, and from what i can tell its roughly 50's, but it still exploded with lather!!! rather interesting smell, but it will be a once and a blue moon cream thats for sure.

i really like the knurling on the HIS handle very well done

That the Williams is still good was a surprise as about six months back someone got hold of some Palmolive cream about late 40's vintage and said the scent was a combo of an old duffle bag and funky sweat socks.
Nice haul.
I'd not mess with any blades out of wrappers or a dispenser as they're most likely used.

yeah, it did have a odd smell i cant really put a finger on what it was. i looked over the blades, more or less looking at the edge of some had chips and such, so yeah, those will just be memories.

I've heard that even unopened vintage blades will likely prove to be duff because of some sort of erosion of the edges (a process that I can't even name let alone understand). Is this true?

Carbon-steel blades like Blue and Thin Gillettes will lose their sharpness and/or smoothness over time due to oxidation, which starts at a molecular level and may not be visible to the naked eye. Depending on storage conditions, wrapped new blades may or may not be worth using. I've tried them from time to time, and only once did I get a marginally "ok" shave from a NOS Thin.

Stainless steel and platinum steel coatings protect the edge from oxidation, and unless stored in very moist conditions have proven to have a very long shelf life. Gillette "Spoiler" blades still turn up (unused) in open packages and are capable of a DFS, as well as Personna 74 Tungsten blades.

Can't recommend ever trying a used vintage blade . . . they were dull before they oxidized!
