  6. Hi all, thanks for the welcome

I just purchased my first straight razor, always wanted one since I was a kid, I used to repeatedly cut my fingers on my dad's old german razor (he was there during the war) playing with it since it had some engraving on the blade. Anyway just picked up a clean second hand Gotta (measures 5/8) so just working out how to sharpen it. Couldn't believe how small and light it seemed, from 40 years of memory my dad's old razor seemed large and heavy.

Would I just need to use a strop and paste or should I use a fine shapton glass stone (32k) that I use for kitchen knives?
