I just had my first shave with an inexpensive Weishi razor this morning and thought I'd share my experience.
I bought a new Weishi on BST, and it was just sitting there on the counter, begging me to open the case and give it a try. So, I took out a new Feather blade, popped it in, and gave this razor a spin around my face.
First thing I noticed was that the razor is very light. My guess it it's made out of aluminum. The doors close relatively evenly, but not perfectly. But if the blade exposure is even on both sides, that's not too big of an issue. TTO worked smoothly. And the razor was relatively shiny! I don't know about you guys, but shiny stuff... if it's shiny, I want it! LOL!
I whipped up some Dreadnought on my face and went at it. The initial impressions on flat areas of my face were good. The shave went pretty smoothly, and it felt fine. But on areas with more curvature to them, the razor felt a little bit more aggressive. And when I wasn't careful, it did nick me a few times. You really, REALLY need to remember to use very light pressure in sensitive areas, or you WILL get razor burn or nicks and cuts. I also noticed I needed to maintain proper blade angle, more so than other razors I have. I think this razor has a little bit more blade exposure, so a bad angle means aggressive shaving. My face does not like aggressive shaving. I'd put this razor's aggressiveness above my 40's SS, and possibly even beyond my Merkur 37G. The 37G at least feels smooth, because of the slant bar. When using the Weishi, it didn't feel as nice as my slant, in my opinion.
Overall, not a bad little razor. But not my favorite, either. I think this one will likely end up on BST again in the near future. But, I'm glad I tried it. I may try a different blade in it, just to see how it shaves with something a little less sharp than a Feather. But I anticipate similar results. I'd recommend this razor to anyone looking for moderate-to-aggressive razors, but on a budget.
