Weeping Scuttle

I got a nice Robert's scuttle that I've been using for about a year now. Never dropped, put in a microwave or used boiling water in it. I just fill it with hot tap water and that is warm enough for me.

I was using it yesterday and was noticing an excessive amount of water on the sink counter. I picked it up and noticed it appeared to be leaking on one side. I moved that side over the sink to avoid further mess. While on the side, I noticed that little droplets of water were forming quickly on the outside of the scuttle and then dropping. I wiped the side and more droplets appeared. I finished my shave, cleaned and emptied the scuttle, and examined it closer. On close examination I could find no pin holes or cracks in the scuttle wall. Has anyone seen this before with a ceramic scuttle?

What would cause this "weeping"? I'm wondering if there aren't some invisible cracks or holes in the glaze that I just can't see.

Is there anything I can do to repair it? Some sort of waterproof exterior (or interior) coating? It is the only scuttle I have and I would sure hate to go out of the shave sabatical because of a scuttle failure (and I don't have enough Arko to last the year).

I'd recommend you fill the scuttle with some colored water. Use some food dye to color the water something that will be easy to see, like red. And then see where the water is coming from.

To seal it, there's always Mighty Putty :a34:

Get a can of "clear coat" spray paint and lay it on thick inside and out then sit it in the sun to dry or if you have a pottery shop in your area have them re-glaze it. Good luck!

I had this happen, and eventually a hairline crack became visible. I patched that with super glue and everything has been okay since.
