Weekend acquisitions

I was visiting various relatives in New Jersey this weekend, and couldn't resist shopping around a little bit.

I found a mug warmer to keep my brush cozy in between passes, and a bottle of Tabac EdT for $9.95. When I arrived home, I got these cute bottles of John Varvatos EdT in the mail from an eBay purchase. Reviews to come!

Hey Scotto!
I found a big beautiful bottle of Caswell and Massey Greenbriar (The Legacy Formulation) Cologne on sale at one of Oklahoma City's few fragrance and soap shops, Essentials. What a find! Very nice to wear.

Word of caution on the mug warmer.... watch the temp of the bottom of the mug. If you are keeping your brush in it and the ceramic mug gets to hot, it will "warp/frazzle" the tips of the badger brush..... learned that the hard was on a vulfix I had to pitch.

Guenron,
How do I know if I have the legacy formulation? A local shop was having a terrific sale on their Greenbriar, due to a packaging change, so I picked up the aftershave, balm, and cologne. I erred by making my decision in a small shop that was overloaded with fragrance. Once home I didn't care for it. I will either be trading it here or eBaying it.
Take care,
Rik

Scotto,

You'll love the Tabac. It is great stuff. I have sampled the John Varvatos. I like it, but want to sample again before I put out cash.

Rik,
C&M reformulated and repackaged about the same time. I do not not know if all of the old style bottles are legacy or some contain the newer "department store" (to use Gordon/Bernard66's fav term ) fragrance.

I went to an Estate Sale this weekend and made my first "vintage" score. This Gillette travel kit has obviously never been used. The paper blade was still in the head and the box of blades was unopened. There was a business card inside the kit that said Happy Birthday - 1971. I would love to get some expert feedback as to what I actually have here. I am new to the whole DE thing. BTW - I paid $1.50 for this kit.

Picked up a few things today scoping out thrift stores and antique stores. Appears to be a Tech head (C2) on a Old Type cracked handle, a nice Old Spice shaving mug, and a Apollo Silver Co. hip flask.

Just a few hours ago at a rummage sale...
Three bottles of Mennen Skin Bracer after shave. Burnished Leather, the basic green stuff, and Spice Scent.

$IMG_20140906_124924_408.jpg

Total for all three: $1.50. :thumbup1: Boosh!

Yes, the Mennen colors are pretty rich. I'll display these on my office shelves with some of my previous finds.
My version of stained glass. :001_tongu

That's a Gillette Travel Tech razor, essentially the same thing as a Gillette Tech, just with a travel sized handle.

The Tech is known for being a good mild shaver, and it served as the basis for countless Asian copies.

That said, unless you're really interested in using a tiny handled mild razor, or are beginning a collection, I would probably leave it as is and flip it on ebay or trade it on the B/S/T for something that you'd use more regularly. Either way, for $1.50, that's a heck of a score. Good work!
