Wee Scot versus The Chubby?

So I've had my Chubby about 10 days now and I find it doesn't compete as well as my Wee Scot when using a soap puck. Creams work better with the Chubby. I gave away my nice Kent BK4 to my son after buying the Chubby but feel he may have the better brush now.

Odd that the Chubby is advertised as one of the best.....got to question that. Love my Wee Scot, delivers a lot for such a small brush.

Man thats bad luck . I'm looking for my 2nd brush . Been wet shaving a year and lurking this forum since January . From reading the forums I first thought I knew what brush I wanted , then I knew what brush I wanted . THEN ,"nuance" reared its head and here I sit . Almost ready I think :001_rolle

I used the Wee Scot this morning. It is a great brush for face lathering. You don't expect it to, but it gives up enough lather for three passes. I bought it as a travel brush but it keeps working its way into my regular rotation. I have larger and more expensive Vulfix Super Badger brush that hasn't been getting much use since I switched to mostly face lathering with soaps.

Although my Wee Scot is a wonderful little brush and does a great job when I want a quick shave during the week............ the Chubby (in my case a "2") is sheer luxury when I have more time on the weekends. Load her up with soap and enjoy!

Chubbys are notorious for needing a good long break in period. Lather it up daily even if you are not going to use it and after a week or three it should be a different brush.

Plus loading and lathering with a big dense brush requires a different technique. Use lots of deep paint brush strokes to load up the sides and base of the knot. This will better saturate your brush and use all of the hair to generate lather. I also suggest loading up that monster more than you would with your smaller brush. As has been stated big brushes need more product to work their magic. I also find that when I use deep paint brush strokes to apply lather it releases more to the face. Good luck and I hope my tips work for you too.

In the end brushes are a very personal thing. You may just prefer a smaller brush. I know I cant go to big, to dense, or to short of loft :001_rolle

Thanks for the input guys. Will persist with the Chubby (its a no.1 by the way) and try more soap. I just find the Wee Scot less work, its just loads so much quicker and is fine for my standard 2 pass shave. 2 passes is all i ever do and it is sufficient- typically DFS to border BBS. (pass one WTG, pass 2 ATG).

I've been considering the wee scott for some time now. You really like it that much? Do you face lather?

Yes I do like my Wee Scot, although when it first popped out of the box I thought it looked like a joke :) Its only when you put it to work you realise its a great little worker.Typically i face lather with hard soaps, with creams i tend to build a little on my hand before moving the brush to my face.

The only way a chubby will ever fail to provide insane amounts of lather is shortage of product. Load it. Then load more. Then go and get a snack and come back and load more.

Put it this way. I load my boars and TGN knots (and Vie long and Plisson) in about 5-15 counts. If I count with my Chubby, we're looking at closer to 50.

Chuckle.......so I can only assume the Chubby eats soap for breakfast/lunch/dinner & Supper. That could be a good thing as i have an insane amount of soap to work through. :thumbup1:

I have a CH1 and a CH2 in two band super and love them both - in a class of their own. They do take quite a while to break in and get the hang of due to the density and size of the knot (especially the CH2), but once you are there lathering is just as easy as any other brush.

Probably right about the break-in time...too soon to tell the full Chubby story!

Wee Scot is without reservation a great brush. I've gotten great shaves with it, and if you only need two passes, it might be just the ticket. I've often had to re-load with soap, but not a big deal. It's stiff enough to make that easy.

Don't have the Chubby - do have Duke 1 and Tulip two-band 2. Have tried various ways several times, but for something like MWF, think I'd opt for boar or Duke 1 in the long run. Softer soaps like Cella and Valobra work fine for me with either boar or Duke or Tulip, just different experiences in each case.

With the larger badger, I've found that most of the lather gets sucked into the brush, but with the smaller Duke 1, there's a good deal left in the bowl. But it just doesn't matter to me, still available and equally good. Many paths to good shaves.

I have a Chubby 3 Super, and it`s hungry for product, but given enough no other brush I have tried comes even close to delivering such incredible loads of the finest lather. Using the brush on my face is pure luxury, a treat for any man if you ask me.

Give your Chubby 1 more product and get to know it over some time before you let it go. You will not be disappointed.

Ok, so definitely noticed a big improvement by adding more soap into the equation.

Now i'm dealing with another issue which is driving me crazy  The brush seems to shed at least a dozen hairs during each shave and having badger hair stuck all over my face whilst i shave is not my idea of shaving nirvana. This Chubby is proving to be a most difficult brush.
