wavy de blade when clamped down

Has anyone ever noticed that some de razors whenever they clamp down and tighten to lock blade in place, the blade looks wavy whenever held up to the light? It can only be seen if you hold the razor head up to the light and tilt the razor until you see the light reflect off the exposure thats sticking out of the razor. Looks like that wavy edge would cause irritation. I noticed those on a razor rock Lupo.

Wow! I haven’t looked, but I will next few shaves. I can’t imagine that would be anything but a painful disaster.

Usually that waviness in the reflection on the bevel is just the primary to secondary grind transition. If that is what you are talking about, I dont think clamping has much to do with it.

Contributing factors are sloppy grinding belts, close primary and secondary angles, and cheap belts with uneven particle size and distribution. Sometimes you see it in a secondary to tertiary transition, too, but those waves tend to be smaller and harder to see.

Not every blade has wavy transitions. It is usually (not always) a sign that something is not well controlled in the grind process.

My exploding razor knows secrets
Is this happening in the aluminum version or the stainless steel version?
Now I only have lupo ss, I will watch and see.(Aluminum version sold)

But as far as I can remember, I have never had any skin irritation..

Its wavy on a Gillette fat handled tech. Smooth on a Gillette slim adjustable. I believe its sloppy tolerance, because you can untighten the Lupo and the blade is perfectly smooth . Below is pictures of Lupo stainless. Its hard to capture on a phone but whenever you see dark shadows in my poor photography pics is the wavy blade. It looks much worse in person. Those waves at the apex can cause irritation, because the bevel plain isn't straight but jagged/wavy/bump.

I know one thing a Wolfman should not have this imo. If my Gillette slim is smooth then a 700.00 razor shouldn't have ripples/waves near the apex!!

Gotcha. Just waves in the whole blade due to the uneven clamping support on the slotted base. It is nothing compared to the twisting action on a lot of slants. I wouldn't worry about it unless it dives into the skin. That happens on a lot of razors. It is a bit of a design compromise, but usually fine. What blade do you have in there? a standard 100 micron blade might fare better than something thinner.

I’ve only experienced that phenomenon on one razor and unfortunately had to return it. The blade was only supported at 3 points along the base plate and the waves happened at each of those points.
