Wave of the Futur???

So, I've been noticing a LOT (and I mean a lot) of questions/WTB's/sales involving the Merkur Futur. A great razor, in my opinion, but I gotta wonder...

When did this sudden wave hit? Who is responsible (you can blame me if you'd like )?

This isn't a complaint, just an observation. As stated above, you can feel free to 'blame' me.

I haven't got the urge yet but I do blame you Jim! Now that we got that out of the way, please, from your experience, list the pro/con of the Future!

Well, you asked for it:

PRO
A huge range of aggressiveness, sleek design, easy to clean, easy to replace blades (I don't care what people say, it's just too easy), and it's got the heft I've been looking for.

CON
The grip isn't for everyone. I've not had a problem with it, but some have. You just gotta know how to handle this beast.
The price isn't that great either, but it'll last forever, so it's not that terrible. I paid $59, shipping included. Not bad....

I've gotten some great shaves so far, and look forward to more as time goes on.

You might be the new face of the revolution to overturn the Czar with Chris...

Thanks Jim!

Oh, I forgot to add:

It gives such a satisfying sound when used. It sings...if you will.

+ however many that is...lol.

Yeah, I noticed the overabundance of threads myself. It's just flavor of the week, like the Gillette 7 O'Clock Greens. People talked crap about them forever, and only ever praised the Yellows, now it's "boohoo, the yellows suck" and "yaaay greens! Where can I get them?"...

I just bought one this week incidentally.

I fancied an adjustable, had a look around, read some reviews here and was initially going to get a progress, until I thought the handle looked too short and the long handle model cost only £5 less than the Futur.

From the reviews I saw many people comment on the weight which appealed to me so I ordered one.

Personally I havent really noticed a wave of threads about the futur, I just read the reviews section (which there are a lot of comments about)

I recieved one for Father's day from the swmbo without even planting the idea. Ever since then it seems like they're the talk of the town.

Yes, it definitely looks like a wave, IMHO.
I'm visiting other shaving forums, but only at Badger & Blade there's such a hype.
The Merkur Futur is well respected everywhere, by the way:001_smile

Yeah, I've pretty much seen that too. I love my Futur, and you'll have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers...

It could also be the "Green Volvo Effect" ... when my father drove a Green Volvo, he'd notice, and comment, that there were a lot of other Green Volvos on the road.

Needless to say, the Futur is a terrific razor ... I'm still getting mine broken in, and haven't found the perfect blade and setting for it yet. Its on the back burner at the moment, while I play with my newly vamped-up PUREgress.

I love the handle ... putting that indentation right at the Balance Point is a stroke of genius by the Merkur designers. And I've found that I like HEAVY razors with Loooooooong handles. In that regard, the Futur makes my Sledgemammer Slant seem puny by comparison.

The Futur wouldn't be my desert island razor, and it doesn't get near enough play in my rotation ... but for some days and certain types of shaves, nothing else will do.
