Watch question

Is there a g-shock (or any watch) where the minute hand doubles as a compass pointer? I feel like I've seen something like this before and I can't find it.

i did see the pathfinder, but i thought there was one where the minute hand had a disconnect from the mechanism; when compass mode is engaged, an accessory motor moves the hand around to point in the proper direction.

If you want a compass, buy a compass. The digital watches with compass functions are neat yes however they have to be constantly calibrated and they can lose their calibration very easily. yes they are easy to recalibrate but you don't want to depend on something like that when your life may depend on it. I have a suunto with that feature but like I say if I go hiking I take a real compass with me.

Hey Bradyarz
As far as I'm aware, there's no G-Shock with this function as all the ABC models are LED and the time-function is digital. I own a Pro-Trek PRG-80, which is now retailing for 250 pounds in The UK! I only really wear it when I'm camping, not for the compass, but for the barometer and most importantly the thermometer. When you've had a few whiskies and are blabbing on in front of beautiful scenery, its quite easy to forget you're geting cold, so I usually hang it off the tent and check it every 45 mins or so. If its late and I'm feeling cold but the temp hasn't gone down, I know to either eat something or go to bed- ditto in the evening as a "hot drink alert" goes a long way to making sure you feel healthy and happy. It's also nice to have some idea of weather fronts approaching, so we can get more firewood in before it hits. Last August in Scotland it was 2 degrees celsius....inside the tent! This info made me appreciate...
1.how good my rollmat and sleeping bag are
and
2.why there was frost on my binoculars which I'd left outside.

absolutely... i'm just a gadget sort of guy and i like having ridiculous features. :001_smile

As others have stated, the Tissot T-Touch is probably the best known watch to have this feature.

Another worth considering is the Victorinox Swiss Army ST-5000 which is a fine watch though the hands don't decouple from showing the time in the way they do in the T-Touch.
