THE BRIDGE ON I-64 AT THE KENTUCKY/INDIANA STATE LINE HAS BEEN CLOSED INDIFINTLY!!! CRACKS IN THE BRIDGE ARE THE CAUSE!!!! Traffic in the Louisville are is now and will be for some time, horrible!! The traffic is being routed {86,000 cars a day} over to I-65. .................JR

Traffic in Louisville has always been ridiculous, imo. But I can only imagine how bad it is if one of the bridges is closed. I hope you live/work on the south side.

Fridays are Fishtastic!
we have been neglecting the infrastructure for 30 years, just so the uber rich can afford to buy a second private jet. We will see more and more of this as years go by.

No. Roadways are paid for with taxes. And people don't want to pay higher taxes.

Since I-64 (an interstate) was mentioned, you are correct- the federal government maintains those roadways with income taxes. The only people benefitting from the Bush "tax cuts" (which were extended by Obama) are the very rich. Hell, even Warren Buffett (my boss and the farthest thing from a socialist, as fox accused him of being) has come out saying the he and his kind need to be taxed more- even just going back to the Clinton rates (which were lower than Reagan) would generate a hell of a lot more revenue. Wall Street writes the legislation, and uses the media (90% of which is owned by 8 major corporations) to brainwash us that it is a good thing.

I'm confused, is there some reason Warren Buffet can't pay more if he feels he should? I am very far from rich myself but I always can find a little extra to donate. Perhaps I can help by providing you the information to make additional donations to the Federal Government if you don't believe your paying enough. Here ya go...

Citizens who wish to make a general donation to the U.S. government may send contributions to a specific account called "Gifts to the United States." This account was established in 1843 to accept gifts, such as bequests, from individuals wishing to express their patriotism to the United States. Money deposited into this account is for general use by the federal government and can be available for budget needs. These contributions are considered an unconditional gift to the government. Financial gifts can be made by check or money order payable to the United States Treasury and mailed to the address below.

Gifts to the United States
U.S. Department of the Treasury
Credit Accounting Branch
3700 East-West Highway, Room 622D
Hyattsville, MD 20782

Hope that helps!!

I would rather give it to the " Salvation Army " The goverment can tax to raise money. And besides the Salvation Army actually use .90 out of every dollar for good.

Yes, I live south of the river, and I'm retired. The paper said today that it will be 3 weeks before they even know what to do with the bridge. It was bulit like the bridge in Mi. [I think] that fell a few year ago..................JR

I feel for you guys - When I was living in Cincinnati the Brent Spence Bridge was (still is) the big deal. It carries 71 and 75 over the Ohio River and has been so overused that they removed the breakdown lanes. Frequently, a disabled vehicle gets pushed off the bridge into the Ohio river below by a motorist not paying attention. Probably like the I-64 bridge it will be close to a decade before it gets replaced.

He's not saying that HE wants to pay more, he said that as a class people earning in the higher income brackets should collectively all be paying a greater share of the burden.

It seems to be a case of do as I say, not as I do. Again his personal choice but it shows what he really thinks. From the WSJ...

"Mr. Buffett has also already sheltered the bulk of his fortune from federal taxes by putting them into a foundation that will give the money away. That's an act of generosity, but if the government's purposes are so vital, why doesn't he simply give the money to the IRS?

Rebecca Quick of CNBC put that question to Mr. Buffett in 2007. His answer: "Well, that's a choice and it's an option . . . If I had to give it to a single individual, or make some young Buffett a multibillionaire, or give it to the government, I'd absolutely give it to the government. I think that on balance the Gates Foundation, my daughter's foundation, my two sons' foundations will do a better job with lower administrative costs and better selection of beneficiaries than the government." "

Devonrem- You are very right. I left Cinci about 20 years ago but even then those bridges were always over loaded. I don't know how they still do it.

My brother in law lives in Indiana but he and his wife need to get to Kentucky frequently. Today he said it took him 2 1/2 hours to make the trip - and this was after rush hour. He said the first step was to find out how much damage there is to the bridge and then see if it can be repaired. The best case: about 2 months. The worst case: years to build a bridge.

I travel between Louisville, KY and Clarksville, IN every day. Even with the hwy 64 bridge out of commission, I'm still only adding a few extra minutes to my drive. Don't believe the hype. The only times that the traffic is heavy is during the rush hours.
