Wanting to upgrade from a Weishi

The only double edge razor I own is a Weishi 9306C. It's mild but it does the job. I heard these were modeled after the Gillette Super Speed razor, is that accurate? I'd like to get a real Gillette Super Speed that is similar, maybe a little bit more aggressive, to the Weishi. Can anyone recommend a model or date range? Thanks!

My other razors are GEM / Ever-Ready SE razors.

The Weishi is a failed attempt at copying the Gillette Superspeed: the Weishi is way more mild, than an actual Superspeed. I consider the Weishi to be so mild, that it is basically useless.

So yes an actual Superspeed will be a giant step up from your Weishi.

You should be able to score a great condition Superspeed for around $20 off of the B/S/T.

Right, but when I look I am a little confused, Red Tip, Blue Tip, Black Tip, variations between years, etc. I don't suppose there is a thread that goes over the different Super Speed variations?

Oh... well.. there maybe one or two (hundred) threads around here about the Superspeeds. The links above are great places to start.

Welcome aboard.

the red tip is a great razor, its the most agressive of the superspeeds, compared to a weishi its like night and day, i think the red tip is the best of the us superspeeds.

Here is the breakdown on what the colored tips mean:

Red and Blue. The Red is more aggressive than the regular Flair Tip Superspeed of that same year. The Blue is less aggressive than the Flair Tip Superspeed of the same year.

The black tip was just a variation on the Superspeed of that time period, and has no bearing on the shave. Nor does it indicate anything at all.

Outside of the Blue, and Red Tip Superspeeds, the Superspeeds shave pretty much identical. So the 40's style Superspeed, the Flair Tip Superspeed, and the Black Handled Superspeed will all offer pretty comparable shaves. One really can't go wrong with any of them.
