What's new

Want to expand my shave tools

So I've been addicted to wet shaving now since June. Since I started wet shaving, I've gotten 2 different DE razors, 3 Shavettes, 1 real straight razor and dozens of brands of blades. I was reading in the General forum about the Single edge safety razors and now have my sights set on getting one of them. I see them on Ebay for $10 - $15 and they look generally clean. Do the same rules apply to these though that I read about straight razors - that it isn't a good idea to get one on Ebay unless you know what you are doing (which I don't).

Is there a vendor or brand that I should look for? I don't want to go above $15 or my wife will kill me. She's already had quite a few fits with my Shavette and Straight purchases.

I would look at a GEM 1912 or a Schick Injector. Keep an eye on the BST board. They come up for sale every once in a while.

For the most part SE razors are not as varied as their DE cousins. Sure you have OC and safety bar SE but they do not seem to have that wild swing like a Tech and R41 have.

Unless the razor has been dropped most, you find that "look" pristine will be usable once you get it.

The pushbutton was a great first SE for me. Reminded me a little of the Super speed in that it gives a close smooth shave without all excitement of a Micromatic.

I took a look at the page on Etsy for Vintagerazor and almost pulled the trigger. It's only a few bucks, but my wife has really been upset with the amount of money this hobby has taken from us over the past 6 months. I think I'm going to have to wait until after the new year before I can make any additional purchases. We'll see what the selection is at that time.

Thanks!

The MicroMatics, whether the Clog-pruf or the fearsom Open Comb will deliver incredible shaves. Just make sure you get the blades in the shaving section of a pharmacy or supermarket.
