Wahl-Eversharp Doric?

I've been admiring these gorgeous vintage pens for some time. I was wondering if any of you have ever owned (or written with) a Wahl-Eversharp Doric? If so, did you think it was worth the money that sellers are asking? I realize that's subjective, but I'm trying to get an idea if this is something I want to pursue.

I've handled a few at pen club meetings I've attended (Pan Pacific Pen Club) and I've even been lucky enough to visit at the Pensbury Manor! The Doric's faceted design is attractive and there are many choices of nibs, even an adjustable. Unfortunately I can't justify the expense as collectors have really driven the prices beyond my comfort zone. I'll stick to my Skylines.

Stop in at the Wahlnut's table at D.C. and say hi to Syd Saperstein, he is a great guy and will probably have a couple to test drive.

Is Syd the guy that has brought back the Skylines? They're intriguing but I just wish they weren't C/C fillers. I have one vintage Skyline, but it doesn't get used that much. It's got a very fine, flexible nib and just isn't that comfortable for normal writing...the tip keeps catching on the paper unless I slow down. That and if I post the cap, I invariably hook the filler lever and end up squirting ink all over the place!

The first time I tried posting my Skyline was also the last time I tried posting my Skyline. I came uncomfortably close to shooting Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown all over what I was working on. I nearly had a heart attack.

Yeah that's the Wahlnut Syd. He's also got a new ink to show there at D.C. too ... and one of the finest collections of vintage Wahl-Eversharps in the land.

I had a Skyline that had the lever sticking up a little and would annoyingly catch on the cap lip if I wasn't careful. I tuned the pressure bar somehow and got it to lie back down in the slot where it is meant to be. It was a while back, I forget what I did, maybe increased the spring pressure a bit.

I carry a vintage Sheaffer rigid xxf & an Eversharp Doric fine flexible daily. The Sheaffer for most formal stuff & the Doric for a little flash. I think the Doric is a wonderful pen, great flex & wonderful ink management.
