Vulfix 404 or more expensive

I have got the Vulfix 404 brush, I find it a good brush but just wondering if I'm missing out on a far better brush as some I see are way more expensive.

Anyone gone from the cheap range to a more expensive brush and thought they got a lot more out of the brush or didn't really notice much of a difference?

cheap brushes work fine and can make lather the same as any expensive brush, but you won't know what you are missing until you take the plunge and buy a more expensive brush. in fact, I had a 404 and didn't care for the knot at all, so reknotted it. the 404 handle is fantastic, built well, heft, turned and great shape but the knot did nothing for me. i found it small, prickly and didn't open up much and didn't have any density to it.

it doesn't have to be a $300 brush, it can be a $60, $100 or $150 or whatever budget you have. for me, I find the $125-135 brushes to deliver the best bang for the buck and performance.

so if you are happy with your 404, by all means, use it and enjoy....but judging by your post, you are curious and you won't be able to cure that curiosity without taking the plunge.

now you mention it, I do find the knot on the small side and prickly, when I see brushes on here they look much denser, I haven't really made my mind up if I like the brush bring prickly as I haven't tried anything else, but just going by looks alone I do feel the 404 looks underwhelming, whether it performance makes up for that I don't know.

I do enjoy the backbone of the brush, and may loose that with an expensive brush as I guess that would mean going all badger.

If say I was in the market for a new brush, any recommendations, for a brush with good backbone, density, and I think I prefer a dark colored base, around the $80-$100 range?

Horn/Blk 1/2 in Rooney or T&H (rooney Knot) would be my recommmendation. it tops out your mas, but still under $100

The Vulfix 404 Boar/Badger brush is a really great brush. You could use it for years and not be missing much.
