Voskhod Razor Blades

$voskhod.jpg
Just curious if anyone here has experience with Voskhod razor blades? I just purchased a 100 pack. On my second shave, it felt like there was a lot of tugging. I was wondering how many shaves all of you are getting with this blade?

I have still to try them. From what I could gather, they're similar to Ladas, both less sharp then Rapira Swedish Superteel. Rapira produces 5 kinds of blades:
  • Rapira Swedish Superteel
  • Rapira Superstainless
  • Rapira Platinum Lux
  • Voshkod
  • Ladas

I hope someone else with more experience comes here and tell his experiences with this brand of blades.

I have one sample pack that contains Rapiras, Sputniks, Voskhods, incoming, hope I will receive them next week, as I am very curious myself. In the sample pack is also a Gillette Rubie pack which I already tested, and is a good blade, just before my top list.

I prefer Rapira swedes to Gillette yellows. I'm still judging Rapira Superstainless, so far sharp. I've heard so good things about the Voshkods that I want to try the rest of Rapira line. Somehow my intuition tells me that the Voshkod lovers have a thinner beard than mine. If that's the case I'll have more sampler packs to offer at Christmas time and birthday parties. Cheaper than a good bottle of wine.

I have about 600 of them. Enjoyable blade.

I get 7 +/- days out of a Voskhod blade.

If you are not getting an acceptable shave, try the blade in a different razor

Hmm, I find gillette yellow the kind of blade that is so sharp that I can't manage to convince it to leave my skin uncut, while not being able to get BBS. Same thing with Feather.

Curiously enough, the most consistent BBS so far was with Astra SP, while Astra SS, Gillette Rubie, Super Iridium, Wilkinson Sword gave me a very nice comfortable shave, but had to do some touchups to get BBS.

Gillette Yellows leaves my face with a "all cuts burn my face" feeling.

I like to use this particular blade with my more aggressive razors such as the ATT Titan H-1 or R-1 and also my Fatboy and Slim set at 6 and 7. As a matter of fact, I used it in my Futur a couple hours ago, and attained a BBS with three passes. Smooth blade and sharp enough but falls a bit short of my Super Iridium in both aspects. I get six (three pass) shaves out of them. I will def. hold on to mine.

The Voskhod is my favorite blade and I get great shaves in just about every razor I use it in, new or vintage. I can get 5 shaves/blade.

Finally tried these last week. Got an ok shave in my Super Speed, and an even better one in my 34C. After the comments here I'm going to try them it in my Fatboy and dial it up and see what happens. Super sharp and more longevity than most blades for me, but seem to give me irriation that isn't there with sharp blades like this. But definitely a great blad and a must try.

Well dialed it up tonight. Had an Ok shave. Face was BBS but major road rash on neck that I haven't had in more than a few months. Don't know if my technique was just off tonight or what but I'll be shelving these blades for a while. Super sharp but just don't agree with my hair type or technique.

I can get a good shave from Astras SP, but the speed is O SO SLOW, because they're not top sharp. On my thick skin, Feathers are the most comfortable thing I have experienced, tugging is my nemesis, the harbinger of 30 minutes of stubble inflammation and pain. Gillette yellows cut ATG worser than Feathers and Rapira swedes. I can feel the difference every time in my face. You might not like Rapira swedes because of their sharpness.

If you have a "baby face" -> thin skin, thin beard, try adding something with oil to your she-shave, glycerin soap, glycerin with olive oil soap, pre-shave oil... Try it. Get a cheap glycerin with oil soap from the supermarket if your beard is thin, or a good one if your beard is thick, it should help your skin's comfort.

Hmm, I think is rather a problem that comes from the fact that the angle that cuts my beard ATG is not good enough on any blade out there, making it impossible to get 1 ATG pass BBS, unless I apply slight pressure. But gillette yellow is one blade that feels so sharp, that I can't use any pressure ATG at all. Astra SP is perfect in this regard, as it allows a tiny bit of pressure, and the angle doesn't allow the blade to cut my skin.

I got pretty strong hairs, and I need 4 passes to get a comfortable shave. If I go with 3, it is too harsh for me.(maybe time will solve this)

I found this (now my 'go-to'), blade to be 'awesome' forgiving and perfect with no pulling or tugging, very, very smooth, (albeit a 'weeper' now & then..but zero 'nicks'), no irratation and/or razor burn that %99.9 of the time results in CCS's in 3 passes (WTG, CTG & ATG), with 2 great shaves per blade (I shave every-other day with Saturdays as my shaving 'day off'),...and are very compatible with both of my Merkur 23C & 38C razors.

Your razor is a Merkur 34? I used that razor and others, nowadays I use 90% or 95% of the time my Ikon OSS. Every day I can't stop thinking about the Feather TAS-DS 'cus that stand is amazing, but in the end of the day I manage to repress my RAD.
The Feather should shave equal to the OSS, I do 1 WTG, then 1 quick XTG only in the cheeks and back upper jaw because of my growth pattern, and finally 1 ATG. Except the neck and lip areas, all other areas areas are done with 45º gillette slide WTG XTG ATG, these razors allow it safely and faster. I get BBS, smooth silk face, and best of all no irritation. But I didn't get there in a couple of days.

The angle at which the blade touch the face isn't equal to all razors, and it has a big impact on skin comfort and blade efficiency, the R41 is the ultimate teacher, she will teach you to shave without the safety of the comb, only with the blade touching your face, she will teach you how to do it without bloodshed and how to play with the blade angles. The R41 showed me how to push the limits of my OSS. I think the people who fail to shave with the Feather AS-D1 don't do their homework.

Thinner (read weaker) beards can cope better with steeper blade angles that cut the shortest stubble better. Thick beards like shallow angles, cutting requires less effort, less scraping feel. That's the advantage of the Feather razor.

The vintage gillettes are very mild and cheap. Why don't you try one?

I got Muhle R89, but from everything I read I can notice that I need a razor that allows for more angle variation. I will read some more, to see what I get out of this, and if I am right or wrong.

Voskhods are right at the top for me. Not as sharp as Feathers, but (to me) much smoother. Actually the only Russian blade I don't like so far are Rapira SS. I usually toss blades after 3 shaves.
