Chan Eil Whiskers
Fumbling about.
Most days I've been using a soap I wish I'd known about a long time ago because it's both a truly excellent soap and super inexpensive. It's also readily available.
Yes I'm talking about Vitos Red.
It's shown here ^ in the 1000 ml container.
Out of the box ^ it looks like a brick of soap.
I initially bought the 100 ml size of this soap from Connaught to give it a try. Obviously I really like it or I wouldn't have sprung for the brick. The soap is in all respects excellent for my shaves. It lathers easily and nicely. It has all the good qualities I want in a great soap. It is also - and this is huge in my world - not drying to my skin even if used day after day after day.
The scent is extremely faint, almost non existent, but quite pleasant when I occasionally smell it. Usually smelling it means sticking my nose near the puck and trying hard to smell the soap; even then it's very faint.
I've not unboxed the soap. The photos are from a vendor's site. But, I know it's a putty like consistency. A so called soft soap, but not all that soft, just soft enough to press into a container with your thumb using some effort.
I'm trying to figure out how to store the brick. I want to cut it into a number of pieces. I'll figure out a way to seal each piece and get all or most of the air out; perhaps using freezer bags. I've not weighed the brick but I've read it weighs a pound and a half or a kilo or something like that. It's not small.
Then - and, yes, I've read all the old threads on the subject - where to put it? There are options but which is best?
Here's the label which was on my 100 ml puck.
This is a link to the manufacturer's catalogue (in Italian). Here's a link to Cal's translation of the relevant page in the catalogue. I can't be sure if there are two different "Reds" or just one with two names? Maybe I should write the manufacturer and ask.
In any case, how to store the soap?
Thanks for any pointers, advice, and help.
Happy shaves,
Jim

- The freezer?
- The refrigerator?
- The bottom drawer or back of the closet?
