Long story, but I recently got back a Weirauch 50S .177 air rifle that was gifted to me a few years back. It's an older gun, might be from the 60's or 70's as it has leather seals (I'm assuming on the piston seal, the breach seal is leather) and no manual safety. The guy I'd lent it to thought it had been stolen, but it turned up when he was moving.
I put a few pellets downrange and the first few shots dieseled badly. The next dozen or so weren't quite so smokey, but still a lot worse than the more recent Gamo or RWS rifles I've been shooting. I know that they used more oil back then to keep the leather seals supple, so I'm guessing that there is a lot of old crud in the air chamber.
If I'm going to shoot it (and I'd like to) I think that it should have new seals and a pretty good cleaning. The mainspring may or may not need to be replaced.
Anyone know of a good "airsmith"? One in the Puget Sound area would be gravy, of course.
