Vintage Watches -- Where to Buy?

Gents,

I am thinking about buying my first vintage watch. My budget requires that I spend less than $400. So, here is my question: other than ebay, where do you buy your watches?

Gents,

I am thinking about buying my first vintage watch. My budget requires that I spend less than $400. So, here is my question: other than ebay, where do you buy your watches?

I bought my $1,000 Rolex at Tourneau. Great warranty, great reputation, and I knew it was genuine. I'm not sure if they have $400 watches, but that might be a start.

Buying vintage on-line is not for the uninitiated. Often times they can have issues and can wind up costing way more than the purchase price. Better to find someplace where you can go and see it for yourself. Often times they come with little or no warranty unless you buy from a few select dealers who sell higher end watches.

I second all here and also suggest checking out local jewelers that carry used watches, both vintage and contemporary. If they don't have what you are looking for, they may be able to obtain what you want through their network of other jewelers. If you really get lucky, you can find someone that will not only sell you the watch but is also trained to service it. This is not a slight on the many trustworthy sellers out there, particularly over at Timezone.com, but there are clear advantages to being able to handle the watch prior to the seller handling your money.

Give my friend Vladimir at Reis-Nichols Jewelers a call. He has always been interested in the persuit of vintage watches.
