What's new

Vintage Seiko 5 question

I purchased a vintage Seiko 5 on the 'bay last month. When I got it, I fully wound it and it ran fast...Super fast...3 mins fast per hour! I tried hitting it against my palm in case the spring was stuck...didn't work. I tried setting it down in different positions...still didn't work. I got fed up and put it in my drawer until I could afford to take it to my local watch repairman. Today I pulled it out of my drawer because I wanted to show it to a friend of mine.

I only partially wound it and set the time and date. What do you know...it's been keeping pretty accurate time today. Has anyone else had this happen to them, where a fully wound watch runs fast compared to a partially wound watch?
The movement is 6319.
Thanks

Yes. I bought a new "fake" automatic watch (it was an experiment for me) which keeps bad time. When fully wound it runs 1 min fast per day, when at near the end of its power reserve it runs slow by the same margin or more. If I am lucky it is only off by a few seconds over 24 hours.

Sounds like your watch needs a major service. I may get the terminology wrong and it may not carry over between different mechanical watches, but it sounds like your watch is out of "beat" instead of just needing a slow/fast timing adjustment.
