Vintage Rooney Set - No horsin' around!!

I snagged this set on e-bay for $40! Not one other bid. It is more beautiful than I imagined it would be. The handle of the brush is made of the same ceramic as the scuttle. It is NOS -- totally unused. The outside of the box shows some wear from age (as you can see from the Rooney sticker which is peeling off), but the scuttle and the brush are obviously new.

I'm not a horse lover, but I do love this set. I have not yet decided whether to use it or to find a suitable place to display it.

I can't upload all of the pictures in one post, so this first one will be a double.

I have no other information about this set, but I would love to know what it is, when it was made, etc. If you have a clue, please tell me, or just let me know what you think!!!!

Thanks!

Sweet score!
Cambridge Chemists have the pucks of soap that fit that type of scuttle. They have a couple of brands.

Have fun.

Thanks for all the compliments, guys, I really do appreciate it. I got very lucky with this one -- I just put in a bid and forgot about it, assuming it would go for much more than I was willing to pay. No one could have more surprised than me when I got the e-mail advising that it was mine at the original price -- no other bids!

Do any of you have any idea about when this might have been made? I have no clue as to whether it's 10, 20 or 50 years old (although I am aassuming it's in the neighborhood of 50).

I'm going to just look at it for a while, but I'll probably start using it eventually. Maybe I'll bump into one of you at Cambridge Chemists in NYC (although it's easier for me to go to Pasteur's -- walking distance from Penn Station)!

Great score. I don't have a Rooney set but a similar style British scuttle I regularly use and find it aids in a quick shave. Life is too short to merely stare at shaving gear , it was made to be used so enjoy it? Be happy I did not see it on ebay or I'd be using tomorrow.:001_smile

A beautiful set! It seem like a pity to use but then again, it would be a pity not to use it! I wonder if they offered a horse hair brush option?

I saw this auction and decided not to bid, I hate horses. I have lost far too much $$$ at the track over the years and this kind of thing just reminds of that.

Use the brush and enjoy it. There's nothing quite like a vintage Rooney.
