Vintage Razor Replating

Hello everyone! I have some vintage DE razors and I was considering replating them if it isn't too out of the ball park. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and recommendations for places to send off to? Thank you so much!

I have had some razors replated, both vintage and contemporary. Based on this I can wholeheartedly recommend our own Onotoman (Dave at www.restoredrazors.com ).
He doesn't grind the soul out of old razors. Unfortunately he is on the other side of the pond in the UK.

I love the Long-Comb NEW that Krona Kruiser replated for me. He is on this forum, and he lives in the USA.

Krona Kruiser and Reliable Electroplating enjoy good reputations here. Reliable will do Rhodium; Krona will not. Both do excellent work; Krona costs a bit less, and generally is more prompt. Reliable did my birth year Red Tip in Rhodium, and it is excellent (they plate, but do not paint the red, or numbers on an adjustable).

I strongly recommend you use either one of these two, or the gentleman across the pond. There are dozens of horror stories of people who have been ripped off. Don't become a victim of a bad businessman; stick with those we know to be honest and whose work is never questioned.

+1 I've got an Old Type and a Pre-War Tech I'm trying to decide which to get plated first. Gonna go with Krona his work looks excellent :001_smile

I believe that the Krona Kruiser re-plates in nickel only. He does outstanding work at at great price, and he is very much a gentleman, and a stand-up guy.

Krona Kruiser did mine, good price and relatively fast, but the finish left some to be desired as there were a few minor blemishes.

Another vote for Krona if you are doing nickel. He's done a new for me that I love, and is getting a new deluxe head that needs a replate.

Based on their good reputation, I have a birth quarter slim adjustable that I just sent in to reliable for a rhodium replate. Hopefully they will bring that one back to life for me, too.

Does Krona do gold re-plates or just nickel and chrome? Hell, I've read so many different things I can't keep them straight. If Krona doesn't do gold, I'd likely go to Onotoman. A bit more for shipping, but worth it if you need Rhodium or Gold. I am going to need both Rhodium and gold in the not too distant future. With the cost of shipping, it might be worth it to just do both at the same time.
