Vintage Razor Recommendation

Greetings, Gentlemen,

I have a galley bathroom with minimal storage - which is the AD equivalent of having your stomach stapled. As such, I only have room for one vintage razor. I am looking for recommendations for the best vintage butterfly style razor - because that is what I remember my grandfather using. Thank you, kindly.

Depending on your price range I would recommend the following:

Low price range: Superspeed
Mid price range: Rocket HD or Fatboy
High price range: Aristocrat #15 or #16

basic transportation: 1940's superspeed

family sedan: gillette slim, fatboy

family sedan with lux package: 1950's aristocrat, rocket, diplomat, president

high-end: english gillettes #66, #15, #16, etc.

I have the luxury car, the family sedan and the luxe package but the basic transportation drives better than any of them. I'm sure it will get to 100,000 miles before any of the others.

Since the limit is one, it would have to be an adjustable just in case the Super Speed is not aggressive enough. While a Fat Boy is good (and popular) the Slim is a better shaver (IMHO) and takes up less space. (slightly . . .:001_unsur)

While the "butterfly doors" were part of the specification . . . if I were to pick one and only one razor for daily use it would be a GEM 1912.

Better yet . . . find a wall rack that will enable you to store a proper rotation and have them all. Of course, there is also the "move to a house with a bigger bathroom" option!

Who says you can't store or display your rotation elsewhere and have only one at a time in the bathroom? I also have a galley bathroom with a 24" vanity. My "shave den" is 12" of width on a 6" deep shelf (SWMBO has the other four feet!) As a result, two of my razors reside on a knick-knack shelf in the hallway when not in use!

FatBoy, first choice. Slim, second choice. You want only one razor. I say that calls for something versatile, like a nice 1-9 adjustable. You want a TTO. That narrows it down pretty nearly to either of these two Gillette adjustables. The Slim is nice but the FB has great hand-feel and I don't know... maybe a bit more of a sturdy, timeless appearance. Very pleasing to the eye, to me.

Thanks, again, for the recommendations! I'm going with the Slim - it reminds me of the one my Grandfather had.

I posted a WTB for one, so if you have one for sale- let me know!

The Slim is a great shaver. Think I'll go use mine now. The short handled Super Adjustable is a great one, too.

PM sent.

The Gillette Slim, Fatboy, and Super Adjustable are all nice. I keep going back and forth between the 3 trying to figure out what one I like best, and I really have no clue. If I HAD to pick one the Slim.
