Vintage Gillette DE question?

I'm wondering if someone may know more about this Gillette DE set I just picked up. It was way too cool to pass it up. Also, any idea on value? I want to be sure I'm not overpaying on stuff.

Appears to be a 1930's New Type 3 piece. Forum rules poo-poo the solicitation of, or the sharing of values on razors.

It's a 1929-30 Gillette long comb, ball end, NEW.

Price is just a number. The important thing to remember is that it "caught your eye" to the point where you wanted to purchase it. The "New" is a crowd favorite here and with the right modern blade will provide you with some great shaves. Clean it up and enjoy it!

Very true words. I think once I get it cleaned up a bit, an Astra blade is going in it and I'll check it out. Is it copper or just plated? If plated, any suggestions on having it fully restored (new plating and all). I'm thinking that would make it ideal. Thoughts?

I have had very good luck with Astra SPs in my NEW razors; I suspect you will, too (sometimes it takes a few shaves to get the hang of it, though)

Krona Kruiser is a master at re-plating NEWs in nickle. He did one for me, and it turned out beautifully.

They're solid brass with gold plating.

Nothing reasonably priced made like that, so maybe I'll keep it as is.

You'll quickly grow to love it. And, if you don't, you'll be able to move it quickly on BST.

Read the wiki to see how to clean it up, so we don't have to cry with you over soaking it in bleach etc.
