Vintage Gillette Blades

Is there a way to guess the approx age of these? There is no date but each pack is different. The one similar one is a little bigger. Also do they shave well or better off just putting them on a shelf and not cutting up my face? Thanks

The super blue blades would be the only ones I would consider using, but they are probably worth more as collectibles in that unopened condition. Here is Achim's Gillette blade page which may help generally date them. The only way to date them exactly would be to open them and look at the date codes on the blades.

Thanks for the site and info.

I was PIF'ed some of the blades in your second picture by paul.c, and I decided to try one. I hand stropped the blade (just in case it was rough out of the box) and loaded it into my 1949 Super Speed. The first N-S was okay. Subsequent passes were progressively worse. I think I understand why men only did one WTG pass back then.

I may try another one, w/o hand stropping, in my Tech, just to see. Hey, skin heals (eventually). :001_smile

Edit: I tried a blue blade in my no-date Tech this morning. The thicker blade makes the Tech a little more aggressive - had to go slow and steady to make sure there were no "accidents." Three passes and a fair amount of touch up (blade buffing) resulted in a DFS - just a few straggler patches from BBS. More work for the same result than I have to do with the Israeli Super+ Platinum blades I normally use, but the end results were not bad at all.
